    NEED HELP!!! Editor Crashes Every Build

    My editor Crashes every time i try to build all with my level it only crashes when it gets all the way through trying to light the level and create light maps can anyone help me????? My Log file is below.

    hey Dknight007,

    go into your mydocuments/mygames/UnrealTournament/UTGame/Unpublished/CookedPC folder. If there is a Environments folder inside here, open it and see if any packages are in there. If there is a package in there with the same name as any package in the original Unreal Tournament folder, it will crash the map at various steps like building, cooking etc. I have had that issue before, you can always also delete all the LocalShaderCache files within the CookedPC folder mentioned above. It might not be your issue but I ran into this problem so I thought I would mention it.

    The editor seems to be looking for a terrain texture named "grassfloor01" when you open your map, look for the Package with the same name as your map, and open that in the general browser. You might have to recreate that terrain texture over. That might help too! Good luck!

      Thanks Bah_Mee, you helped me explain my problem, it was do do with a file package (HU_Floors.upk) it kept crashing but now I know why, so what should I do, delete the package from the mygames folder or the one in the UT3 game folder (The one in Mycomputer)

        Thanks for the help Bah_Mee but none of those techniques worked for me.... the terrain is fine lol when no materials are attached to it once I apply a material it goes funky so i have abandoned terrain altogether and just used a thin bsp brush for a ground plain until I can figure out exactly how to figure out the problem.

          Yeah Dy1ngs0ul, the one in the MyDocuments folder, delete that one. For some reason, if by either accident or by modifying a package that the game relies on, it saves a package, like HU_Floors.upk into your custom map directory. This causes the editor to crash because its reading the two packages from different locations I think.

          dknight007, it could be the terrain material, the terrain materials are sometimes picky hehe.

            DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING IN YOUR MYCOMPUTER FOLDER--!!!
            * if you can open the map in editor - simply load Your "my documents version" of the "HU_XXX"- click file save as - "HU_FLOORS_WITH_)A_NEW_NAME"

            -This will just cause any other textures/ mesh to be re-assigned to the "new name upk".
            p.s.
            - i once had an environments folder in 'my documents' that contained many of the original packages - it does not cause a crash - it will just say "package Xin location Y -- is not package Y - in location X"
            - this causes no crash- your problem is somewhere-else

              nono, the problem is that the newly created package that is in the MyDocuments folder is in fact the SAME exact one that is in the original UT3 folder. Deleting the one in mydocuments/mygames/UnrealTournament/UTGame/Unpublished/CookedPC/environments will not effect the game or your map in any way.

              Deleting the one in the original ut3 folder will break the game though. like say C:/UnrealTournament3 do not mess with those files.

              Renaming the said file in the mydocuments folder would just make your map file much larger since it would be using the same package but a duplicate version that would not be neccesary

              Keep in mind I am not talking about user created content, but content that came with the game.

              I share this because i somehow modified NEC_Floors package, and it saved it in mydocuments directory, and I could not even open my almost done map because of the package being referenced was already in the actual game directory. After some research I deleted the NEC_Floors package in the mydocuments directory and THANK GOODNESS my map loaded!

                You put fish and chips in the oven- you get fish and chips out- You don't get fish,chips and peas out!

                ** By which i mean;
                - Your map will not magically grow in size -
                * Only content that is used in your map will be cooked in the file UPK'S
                - if you have a duplicated / changed an item in"hu_floors"- it is because you change something in then original "Hu_Floors"
                - if DKnight did this- then he Obviously requires the aforementioned "item"- rename the package
                e.g. "HU_Floors_DKN007"- this upk can be 300gb - if you only use 1mb of it -front end will only cook 1mb of that file;

                - you will not be able to cook a package with an existing name.

                ^^ i think it is necessary- because why else would the editor/ 007 create a new hu_floors- he obviously didnt like a texture or a mesh needed collision or something he liked was just not quite how he wanted it..which required a change.. - just examples

                  I am just going by my own experiences here,

                  If you created something it would be best to save it your map file, like CTF-BIGMAP.upk, then at least when you package up your map, you dont have a bunch of extra files to save etc. That's how I have always done it.

                  but like I said, I was talking about content that came with the game that I 'accidentally' modified, not something I intentionally modified. If that makes more sense?

                    - i think we should leave the "duplicating content into your map- tutorial" for another day-
                    - lets just first see if he/she can solve this problem

                    - if he/she really wants to change something - this can be tackled with ease
                    - and yes - putting all stuff into your map is usually the best idea [unless you have custom content that you use in multiple maps Obviously]

                      Just check that map on a different PC and a clean installation.
                      If you search for "TBasePassVertexShaderFDirectionalLightMapTextureP olicyFNoDensityPolicy" on google you'll find a thread about a similar problem (quite the same by looking at the error message). The origin of that error was a broken GFX card.
