UT3 crashes laptop

    UT3 crashes laptop

    I just acquired an HP EliteBook 8530w laptop and I need to run the UT3 editor, but I cannot. I can get the editor to open, but when I try to load a level I get this error message:

    “UT3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience”

    If I try to run the game, I get the same message and a crash to a black screen, requiring a restart. I have two separate install disks and the problem happens with both installations.

    The laptop has:

    Intel Core2 Extreme X9100 @ 3.06Ghz
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M - Driver version 6.14.11.7606
    3 GB RAM

    These specs seem like they should handle UT3, so I cannot understand why it will not work. I am new to UT3 and I find this very frustrating. I would appreciate any help in overcoming this problem. Thanks.

    in Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Logs look for Launch.log or Launch2.log when UT3 crashes it will write to one of those. You might be able to figure it out yourself if not someone on here might be able to help.

    Also are you patched up to Titan pack + 2.1 patch?

      Thanks for the reply. I installed patch 2.1, patch 4 and the titan pack, but it still crashes. I am pasting in the log file below. It does not really help me, but hopefully someone here can get a clue from it. I do not see any facility for attaching a file, and this is rather long, so I apologize.

        You need to D/L the video driver from nvidia. The video driver that came with your laptop will not work.

        Now the question is which driver to use? I think the beta is your best bet.

          ok to keep it simple try loading one of the UT3 maps, if that works then your custom map is broken, try using a backup version

                They work fine for me. You need to actually click the links or click quote if you want to copy and paste the link into your browser. The forum shortens the url so it cannor be a direct copy. that's just how the forum works.

                The 770m is listed under the quadro FX series.

                  no luck

                  I installed the beta driver, but it made no difference. It will not load maps that Epic ships with the game either. I am at a loss for what to do, and any suggestions are welcome at this point.
