Activating retail ut3 on steam: "Duplicate Product Code"

So, as soon as the announcement was made, I tried to activate my copy of ut3 on steam and got a "duplicate product code" error for my troubles, indicating that my key had already been activated by another steam account!

Could there have been duplicate CD keys out there in the wild, or did someone manage to generate my key from a keygen? Can Epic do anything about this or am I at the mercy of Steam's support system? (Which has been unresponsive since I reported the problem)

It doesn't seem to be a systematic problem - I haven't seen anyone else report this happening.

Im sorry to hear that, but if you have the product and product key, you should be able to get your account back.
Im glad to know that after I register my key with steam someone will not be able to generate and use it when Im not online.

Just to close this thread out on a happy note - Steam support was able to get me activated after I sent in a photo of my cd key.

(i know.. gamespy gave all of us such a bad taste in the mouth we hardly are able to have a normal relationship with steam now)
