You can't compare half life 2 with ut3... completely diferent engine.

You should post your PC specs so we can understand what kind of machine you have and what could be the issue more easily.

Most other maps i've played on are fine, except for everything looks a bit foggy

I have tried updating my DX but that didn't work, and yes,
I am going to try updating my driver today
i don't really see why i have this problem though, i can play hl 2 perfectly fine on max settings...
even though that is an older game, it's max is higher than ut3's lowest

Aside from being a 3 year old card it seems a poor one with only SM2.
Have you tried updating DirectX and video card drivers?

I run windows XP and i have a 3 year old video card (not sure about the video card)
