Help, a bit OT: RAID1 and performance

It's for both gaming and work. The RAID 1 would be with a 2nd WD or Seagate 640GB drive. Do you prefer Seagate or WD ? Do you have RAID1, and if so, do you notice performance improvement ? Do you trust RAID0 and does it really make a difference for gaming?

    Questions, questions ...

Edit: my main problem is that I can't find recent (2007/2008) Raid benchmarks. RAID with P4 or Athlon single core and older disks don't cut, today the bottleneck should have way different. Thanks

RAID anything does not help gaming performance. Raid is useful for DAQ and other programs that are Hard drive intensive, lot's of read and write operations. Games only read the hard drive when loading. Running SATA2 drives that run at 10k rpm will speed up load times without adding to the system overhead.

Using the RAID on desktop boards will increase system overhead and actually slow down games on the order of a couple percent.

Running SATA2 drives that run at 10k rpm will speed up load times without adding to the system overhead.

Cool, thanks. I don't know much about people's experience with RAID, and there are a lot of contradictions in the reviews. And really screw it, I'm pretty decent managing independent drives already
