    Custom Characters (PC version)

I installed UTIII about 4 months ago, uninstalled it after about 2 months and during that first installation I had no problems with Custom Characters. I put the files where they needed to be and they "just worked".

I reinstalled it and tried to put Custom Characters in but I can't get it to work.

Both times I "did NOT" install any patch.

Anyway, could someone, uh....tell me where to put CustomChar files? Because....heh...I uhhh...I don't...knooww... =\

many custom characters have to be installed along with the latest ut patch (1.2).... the location to put them *should* be mentioned in a readme when you download them.

        The INI goes here.
        "C:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config".

The UPK goes here (create the CustomChars directory)
        "C:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\CustomChars".

I see, and do each of the characters have to be in their own folders? Or can you just drop them in individually?

I believe all characters go into the same folder, just like maps do.

Alright. Thanks for the straight-up help.

              I appreciate it.

EDIT: Still doesn't work. Maybe my install fucked up or something.

              Eh, I give up. =|

make sure you dont confuse the folder published with the folder unpublished. It is very likely you wont even have the "published" folder but you will only have the "unpublished" folder. And inside unpublished the subfolders are identical to what there should be on the published one, making confusion easily appear.

So make sure you create "Published" folder and put your stuff there, and not in "Unpublished".

When I run into this myself, I thought that the readme of the custom stuff I had downloaded had some sort of typo so I installed everything in "unpublished" and they didnt work. After that I tried creating "published" my self and ever since I have not had much trouble at all getting any kind of custom content to work

Nah, I didn't confuse the two. I have GoW for Windows and it works the same.

                  I'll figure it out eventually.

Some models may require you to alter the UTCustomChar.ini.
The one below for example, gives you a modified INI that you use once the characters are installed. Maybe you should try it (they are GOW skins).

where would you put the texture files? Do you need to add the .jpgs with it?

None of my custom characters show.
