    Unreal Tournament 3 Editor Problems

    Hi,

I've started using Unreal Unreal Tournament 3 Editor, or Unrealed as its known, and am experiencing some FPS issues. For example, when I change viewports, (from Perspective to Top, or any combination), the editor freezes up for about 10 seconds, sometimes more.

Also, when I change windows, for example, going into the generic browser, it freezes up and my mouse control is completely lost. Its a serious impairment to my work.

I don't think its my computer, as I'm running it on a Quad Core CPU, with 4GB of RAM and an 8800GTX with 768MB of DDR3 Memory... and I have no problems with the game itself.

I could find no updates for the editor, and wondered if anyone else was having this problem or if anyone knows any workarounds or fixes to it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hollowman.

Problem aside, UnrealEd is EXTREMELY demanding, far more so than the game itself. It is known to use large amounts of RAM too. Have you tried the INI fixes for the game (posted in the Stickied threads in this forum), as some of them might pertain to the editor.

All I know is that if somone can use up all the space in the editor in a map, then they have to be using a super Computer or somthing.... I wonder if epic could possibly make a map that big, Im talking about using up the whole Blue square (The one you see if you back all the way out of the editor). I can't even use up 1/8 of it without getting small black srtipes due to lack of RAM or Memory.

I've already gone passed that when I made a full-scale terrain of part of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest. Your head was only a few feet from the ceiling when at the summit and some mountains were outside of the hard-coded invisible wall (the blue lines). It actually didn't lag at all, but that may be because it was just a massive, poorly-textured terrain with nothing on it.

Yeah it's possible to have huge worlds, but that depends on how much materials and static meshes your level has and the complexity of the lighting.

I wonder if someone would be mad if I made just a Huge desert with small hills, no plants of anything, just hills

Well put some sandstorm effects and proper sounds also a few small buildings destroyed and unlit (so that lighting doesn't affect them), I'm sure someone would at least try it.

An old Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 1GB of DDR2 400MHz RAM and a (half-dead) GeForce 7600GT. No I'm not joking, the map was available for testing a while ago, but things came up and I had to end the project.
