Need some help on improving performance

    Hey there.

Yesterday I was reading a thread, and someone said 'Is anyone still stuck with 60 FPS?'
That shocked me, for I didn't know you could go much higher than 35. Yes, I play on an average of 30 FPS, with world and texture detail on 1 and resolution on 1024x768 (though I have a 22 inch screen).
And if I record my screen (I'm working on a little video) my FPS drops to about 17 - 20.
So is there any trick on getting this a little up? Of course I know you want to know my computer specs. The problem is I don't know where to find that. All I can tell you from the head is my graphics card, which is a 'Radeon X1650 SE'. No idea if that's good.

So I guess you'll have to tell me first where to find my system specs, before we can enter discussion on my problem.

Weird thing is that I thought that my game runs quite smooth on 30 FPS. I can't imagine how smooth a 200 FPS game runs. BTW, what's the maximum FPS?

    Thank you for your assistance.

doe dan ff rechtermuisknop op Deze computer, en dan eigenschappen; het staat onder computer.

I think you can speak Dutch if you live in Belgium? To see your system rig, right mouse button on the This Computer icon, then press preference (donno what it is in English, its the lowest button :P) there you can see your system rig.

To have an overview of your specs:

right click on "My Computer" ==> properties. Works both for XP and Vista.
X1650 SE is a bit light for that kind of game, yes.

About max FPS, there is no theoretical limit: in principle you could get any value. In practice, I don't really see the point of getting higher fps than your screen refresh rate, which is likely to be < 75 hz.
IMO, 200 fps won't be any smoother than 60 fps on a 60hz screen. Moreover, even with a faster screen, you would not notice differences.
That beeing said, if you play with stable 30 fps, the game should be smooth enough for you to enjoy it. Because you already dropped world & texture details to the min., I don't think you can do much to improve perfs (except getting a new computer of course), but I'm not a tweaking expert.

About the thread "still stuck @ 60 fps", that is because the game is caped at 60 fps by default.

sytem specs are verry important indeed. processor, memory en graphics card are a few we defenitly need to knwo.
but dont forget to tell how big your CRT/LCD screen is. lots of people buy big 20"22" and even 24" screens when the have a stock Dell pc

That's because you've unticked "smooth framerate" then.

              Are your drivers up-to-date?

                      Thanks for the help.
So on the link you sended me, I choose Vista -> 32 bit -> Radeon 1650 series. Then it gives me two download options.

                      1)
                      - Catalyst Software Suite (32 bit)

                      2)
                      - Display Driver
                      - Catalyst Control Center (32 bit)

The problem is that I have not a freaking idea what those things are. Tell me please, what do I need to pick?

If you have no idea what you're doing, take 1) (Catalyst Software Suite)
Everything is included inside. Also, you should uninstall your previous drivers first.
