    ATi - Catalyst A.I. - I found something weird

while installing a new OS i was playing around with settings and i found something weird. if the setting "Catalyst A.I." in the (newest) ATi driver is enabled i get alot worse FPS then when it's disabled. it doesn't matter if it's on Standard or Advanced when it's enabled. the problem is, that this option is actually there to improve performance in games with the cost of loss of image quality and it gets enabled if you're just putting the overall performance slide-bar in the settings towards "performace", which probably most people do, so it's a trap if you're having performance problems in UT3 already and want to lose them.

here are some screenshots with extralow imagequality (but the effect is also there with higher settings) of spots on shangrila and deck, where i get the worst FPS out of all the maps. so check out the FPS!

    with Catalyst A.I. enabled:

    with A.I. disabled:

btw, here are my system specs:
    i'm on 1280*1024 and fov 100
    AMD X2 5000+
    4GB RAM
    ATi HD3870
    MSI AM2+ Mainboard

so now to you guys who own a new ATi card: do you got the same problem? and if so, how big is the difference? or did maybe i get something wrong?

hmm interesting Ill have to test it out later, Ive always wondered if it did anything at all. I always left it at "Standard". If itll give me an extra 10FPS then hooray.
The most recent 8.3 driver was kinda BS I think. Im thinking it was the sudden cause of my UT3 freezes earlier today.

anyways...umm im surprised you arent running at 100+ FPS with that card>?

Why o why would you make the game look like that...

Anyway, CAT AI works fine for me, plus I can't disable it (Crossfire).

I will test it anyway. Ut3 runs in windows XP with A.I. enabled. I will turn it off today, and will look if its running better afeter that.

But this texture cheat is another thing. i hate cheaters.

it runs abit better with A.I off, but solves not the bug.
