x800XT vs x1950Pro color depth

Ok i'll keep this short and simple.
I have 2 computers. 1 with a Radeon x800XT 256mb, and another with a Radeon X1950Pro 512mb

for some reason, the x800XT makes the game look like its in 16bit. Take a look:



Now if you look at the same shot, taken on the x1950Pro, you'll notice, its alot nicer:



Is there a reason behind this? If so, is there a way to make the x800XT render the game like the x1950Pro?

That's the difference between SM2 and SM3.
X800 cards do not support SM3 so there is nothing you can do.

make sure FloatingPointRenderTargets=True in your UTEngine ini when using the x800?
I can replicate this 16bit texture look by setting this to false. It gives a big performance boost by removing almost all particle effects, but I dont like how the colors are reduced in dark areas/textures

Thanks for your reply mate. I check out that FloatingPointRenderTargets setting and it was already set to true. So I guess theres no hope for the x800 based cards to display UT3 properly

Yep. Sorry about that but it is indeed the SM3 lack of support. There are other things that the SM2 will cause to look weird on a X800 as well.

you do have screen percentage set to 100% in game options.

Screen percentage wouldn't affect color depth , just image crispness.
