Lets see if I can interpret this post. Help us help you and give more details next time...
So you pause the game, then unpause the game, it makes a screeching sound then BSOD's?
What OS are you using 2000/XP/Vista?
What hardware do you have?
What drivers are you using?
Did you install the 1.1 patch?
What version of DirectX do you have installed?
Does this happen every time you pause/unpause the game, or sometimes?
When did this start happening initially?
What were you doing before opening the game (when it first happened)?
Define perfect.
Have you taken any steps at all to troubleshoot or narrow down the problem?

I'm playing, all of the sudden the game freezes, I do not pause it, it just freezes. Then after about 5 seconds it starts going fine, about 2 seconds later I get a blue screen and I hear screeching through my speakers.
Of the 2 times it has happened, it has done it like this both times.
I define perfect as I was able to play the game for hours with no crashes.
Ok, I have done some troubleshooting and one thing I've noticed is in my event log it gives me a disk error, saying that it detected a controller error on harddisk1.
Although, I notice that the error was recorded about 15 minutes before the thing crashed. I have gotten this error multiple times. I suppose it could be the HD. Just don't know why I don't see an error like that when it crashed. Would an HD failure cause it to do that? I guess it's possible, another thing I have no paging file so once the map is loaded it's pretty much loaded into memory, if I had a paging file I could see it being a problem. Technically I guess it could still be an issue.
I will run a hd test and see what happens.

Its possible this could be from a failing HD, it could also be your chipset/sound drivers. Can you post the details of the Event Log entry?
If you have a lot of RAM there is a possibility that you are doing very little page swapping thus when the HDD is actually accessed causing this 'delayed' crash. This failure per se could also be caused from your HDD overheating.
How long are you typically playing before this happens?
How long has your computer been running before you run the game?
Also, please post your system hardware specs

8800GT, 2 GB ddr800 ram, core2duo 2.66 ghz, audigy 2.
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.

Hmm, are you on a RAID setup, or do you just have multiple HDD's? If you're on a RAID, that could be the problem.
Can you tell us what the BSOD says? If it automatically reboots, you can turn that off so you can see what the BSOD says.
Control Panel >> System >> Advanced Tab >> Startup and Recovery Settings >> Uncheck Automatically Reboot >> Reboot
