SB Audigy 2 ZS conflict with UT3

    SB Audigy 2 ZS conflict with UT3

    I just finished assembling a new system. I installed UT3 and it worked fine excpet for some sort of sound lag during the mission breifings. I played the game for about an hour without any problems other than the mission breifing sound lag. I figured this lag was likely due to the cheap sound card that came with the board. This soundcard also was unable to produce 5.1 channel sound. So I removed it from the board, and took my SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum out of my other computer and installed it in the new system.

    I booted up after the installation and downloaded the most recent drivers from Creatives website. I played some MP3's in winamp to see if the surround was going to work, and it did.

    I wan't to see if the sound lag in the UT3 mission breifings was gone, so I tried to load the game. It displayed the UT3 pic w/ the dude and his massive gun, but went no further. When the game fails to load, the CPU usage goes to 100%, but the ram does not fill with any new data.

    What I've tried so far;
    1) Updating Sound Card Drivers
    2) Updating Video Card Drivers
    3) Uninstalling Unreal 3
    4) Reinstalling Unreal 3
    5) Installed the latest UT3 Patch

    When I attempted to load the game after I reinstalled it, it said my unreal something.ini was out of date and needed to be updated. So I clicked yes. I assumed the uninstall would wipe out EVERYTHING, but i guess it left a couple files around.

    The game still does not load.

    you could try this not sure if it will work but worth a try i guess.
    Goto my docs/my games/ut3/config and del utgame.ini and utengine.ini.
    or just move them to another place.
    run game see what happens then.

      This didn't resolve the problem.

      I tried diabling the soundcard in device manager and the game loads fine, but obviously without sound. At least now I know for sure there is some sort of conflict between the card and the game. I don't know what I should do next.

        Make sure you dont have "Use Hardware OpenAL" enabled. That crashes the game for me.

        Also try the hardware acceleration slider in dxdiag in the sound tab. Its worth a shot.

        Try each slider from all the way, start with full acceleration (obviously this wont work as its default already), move it 1 notch down, try running the game, if it still doesn't work, move the slider down another notch and so on.

        If none of them work, you could try using older drivers.

        And it would be a good idea to grab the newest DirectX redist. This link will take you to the Dx 9.0c November 2007 redist.

          I have two XP AMD 'puters with Audigy 2ZS Platinum Sound cards running just fine with Altec 2.1 and Klipsch 4.1 powered computer speakers (so I can't speak for your 5.1 issue). I installed the default drivers from the Creative CD and updated the drivers through Creative's Auto Update on their web site.

          These machines gave me a heck of less issues than my main gaming rig with a Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS that constantly crashed the game until I replaced the OpenAL drivers in the UT3 files with the drivers from Blacksite Area 51.

            That sounds like it could be an issue with XRAM, my XFi platinum works perfectly fine as long as I dont use the Hardware OpenAL option.

                Thanks for the suggestions.

                1) Hardware OpenAL doesnt seem to help in either mode. Ive been able to toggle from within the game as I can load the game when the soundcard is disabled in device manager.

                2) I should probably mention Im using Vista x32. My Direct X is version 10.

                Oddly enough, there is no slider bar for the acceleration in the dxdiag tab. I remember using it to solve a problem about a year ago on my old PC, but its defiantely not there on the new pc. I took a couple screenies so you can see what I'm seeing.

                    Just confirming that I did completely exit out of the game after each switch between hardware openAL mode.

                    I dont know if there's some other hardware openAL switch somewhere, but the one I've tried is located in the Audio Settings Menu in the game.

                            Hmm, they are official drivers yet are not WHQL certified at least thats what your dxdiag screenshot says. Did you have older drivers installed before or is this a fresh install of vista?

                            Also, please post your UTGame\Config\UTEngine.ini. Also, take out the section near the bottom of the file that says [OnlineSubsystemGameSpy.OnlineSubsystemGameSpy]

                            And if possible, post the file contents in [code] tags please?
