    Request: Open Mic Mod?

Mods, Admin, Anybody at Epic, please listen...

I'm a huuuuuge fan of the Unreal Tournament series, have been for ages, so I was glad to hear it come to the PS3, hell I even skipped on buying the PC version just so I can start up my PS3 library, now I regret it by 10 fold! Why? Mics! Why on gods earth can I not get the mic to work? I have 5 mics, 4 bluetooth and one USB Logitech and non of them work in UT3 for PS3. I've read every faq on this forum, every admin issue that has drop and I still can't get this to work for the life of me. I'm to the point that im ****** off and have wasted away $60 on this game to have one of the most critical parts of a multiplayer game, which is voice chat NOT WORK PROPERLY.

What even makes matter worse, is the fact YOU want us to press a button, a button? you have gotta be joking me! As fast pace as this game is, you want us to press a button to chat, that is the dumbest idea ive ever heard. Why was it not discussed in your board room about open-mic chat? Which would make voice communication ALOT easier? Let's take a Call of Duty 4 in this example, which runs a beautiful open-mic setup. COD4 is slower paced than UT3, and operates on open-mic with lil to no hitch, why can't UT3 do the same? I would expect COD4 to have push-to-talk because it's slower paced and have UT3 have open-mic because it's faster and you don't want to have to press a button every 2 - 3 secs to talk, you'll end up getting kill because you had to press the d-pad, insane Epic, insane.

I have pressed every button on the **** sixaxis controller, but most importantly, I have pressed right on the d-pad (no, I have not change the options, everything is default). I have been in every game mode and have not heard one person say a peep, nothing, crickets, mouse scattering and im yelling "hello", "hello... anybody can hear me". Do you know how stupid that sounds, yelling at a freaking game or annoying that you can even operate with your team mates properly to get things working? How would you feel? All my friends have mics on my UT3 list, yet we cant hear each other. Hell, even my friends list where it says "voice", its not check mark for me and my friends and I have a headset and it works too! WTF EPIC! It goes even worse and gets bad where I have to call my friend on my cell phone and communicate from there, lol... funny, but embarrassing. It's too the point, I have scared off future UT3 owners, I don't like to sway people from this game because the general purpose of it is fun, but its even better with, um yeah... MICS WORKING!

I read your replies, you want us to duplicate it, you want us to go to setting and pair our headset, wtf... are we stupid? You guys act like we dont know how to use a BT or USB headset, hell most of us have COD4 and our headsets work PERFECT, we dont have to go into setting every **** time before the game and pair it, just start COD4, when your in the lobby, hold the BT headset power button for 5secs and *BAM*, its working and your talking with NO PROBLEM! Epic are you reading this? WORKING WITH NO PROBLEM! Here is an idea, why dont you duplicate the same proccess like the guys did at Infinity Ward, sounds like a plan to me, hard work for you guys, but we paid $60 bucks for your game, act like you guys care! A patch? It better be crafted by the hands of god! This patch better be open-mics, hell whats stopping you from using open-mic? Database or infrastructure problem? A network situation, hell im sure all of us wouldn't mind some UT3 down time for open-mics, especially if it fixes this mic problem completely. I mean, im sure a smart dude, in discussion of voice chat, in the board room said "hey, what about open-mics, that could make this fast pace game easy for user instead of pressing a button" and some head-honco moron shot it down and said "no, lets make them press a button".

I really don't understand that a sitution that has been presents for nearly 2 months has still not got any help. I mean, im ready to sell this game, gawd ****, a freakin multiplayer game where voice chat is encourage yet IT DOESNT WORK, how does that happen Epic? Really, what the hell went wrong? I know mods, admins, people working at Epic are probably reading this and are filled with many emotions, whether it's anger, laughter, sad or careless, but I know I speak upon thousands of people on this forum and countless others (ign, gtforums, neogaf just to name a few) when I say get this fix ASAP! If you guys can quickly muster out new maps and mods, muster out an open mic update and SOON. With that said, im sure this will get closed, lock or deleted, but what I type had to be said, and I hope its gets through anyone that works with or for Epic.

Open-mic is annoying anyway IMO. Play COD4 for a week and tell me how often you just put your mic down next to you so you don't have to hear every breath, every scream, or every conversation from someone else wearing a mic. I just hope the mic system gets fixed and I'll be fine with pressing a button down.

You really only need mics in the objective games where you will have a little more time to react anyway.

Open Mic > Pressing Right On The D-pad

UT3 is too fast pace, waaay to face pace to keep pressing right on the d-pad. I have been kill a multiple of times trying to get voice chat to work. It makes talking **** or just talking in general useless, than again... talking on UT3 is already useless since it doesnt work, good job Epic,

It'd be pretty simple, just make it so right D is held constantly. I'll try and do it later.

i really dont like the idea of pressing down on the dpad. for the previously stated reaso that it is way too fast paced of a game. if it was a toggle style voice button then it would be great. that way it would stay on after you let up on the button.

I don't know if it's difficult to press anything on the Dpad since I play with a keyboard. Pressing B isn't overly difficult. The 2 times that the mics have worked in this game I found it pretty easy to hold the button down. Understanding what was coming into the headset is a whole other story...

I'm going to be purchasing a PS3 and UT3 soon and from games like Battlefield 2142 and CS Source that button mics are a pain in the butt, when I purchase a PS3... I don't want that problem, of course on those games you can change it, but I have a horrible soundcard and nobody wants to listen to me sound like I'm in a "helicopter". So in lobby I wouldn't mind if it was right-D pad... but in game, and you attempt that.... well, you're gonna spec a lot of time on the ground dead, I don't think that pressin' a mic should have to affect your fragging and should be taken care of ASAP... just thought I'd give my 2 cents....
