Can I make it any smoother running...?

    My Specs:

    Intel Quad Q6600 2.4ghz
    2GB DDR2 Ram
    Ati HD2400 256mb

I just bought this comp today and I tried running Unreal3 and it seems to have slowdown/bad fps that drop into the 15's.

I have screen percentage at 100
    Texture 2
    World 2

    Resolution 1000/800 (forgot exact numbers)

Your graphics card is unfortunately considered a mid range to low-end model. There are several things you can do to improve the stability of your frame rate, however: follow the guide -

      Not that disappointed...

Only paid 550 dollars for it, so not to bad I guess.

Would the 3850 512mb run this maxed with 30+ fps?

Yes, the HD3850 is best card per price and you'll be able to play any game maxed out with 30fps at least, however please take note that UTIII has terrible performance on some configurations regardless video card brand, aka ATI or nVidia.

No you can't. Simple enough? It is the game.

Spyte, your name is quite apt: harsh post, dude. I have the same C2D CPU and matching 2gigs of RAM and I run the game really nice with my system so I think it's definitely going to improve with a 3850. Check out my benchmarks:

This graphic card is surely NOT low end! I got a ATI X1900 series, and i play ut real nice, most of the time 60 fps, sometimes below (like deck etc.)

HD2400 is low end card by all means, does not meant for games but for HD videos and decoding of HD stuff, the fact that it's 2400 and the number higher than 1900, indicates NOTHING.

                        Definitely yes.

Last week I saw a test comparing a 3850 and 3870 in UT3 in 1680x1050 resolution. The 3850 was very impressive indeed, and stayed no more than 15% behind 3870.

Maxed out, you should be getting 40-50 on the average.

Trust me, I have a 3870 as of today, the same CPU as yours.

                        It really rocks.

                            The 2400XT is very low end for UT3, look at the review and benchmarks;
                            http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3128&p=2

The 1900XTX is a great card as are all the 1900 series cards compared to the 2400XT.

Only the 2900 is better than the 1900 cards.
