I think the only thing we can do is wait for Epic Games to see that everyone is having the same problem and then wait for them to make another patch that might fix all of this. God I hope that happens.

the patch lets you save the game right? If your Vista try running ut3 as the administrator.

                Ask midway support about this.

Did you make a player profile? It's required to save any preferences.

This is what Midway support will tell you:

Unreal Tournament 3 CD Key issues
If UT3 is repeatedly asking you to reenter your CD Key even after you have entered it successfully several times before:

                      1) Are you online or offline? Each time start the game, it checks to see if you are Online or Offline. If you are Online and the last time you played your computer was not online, it will ask you for your CD Key again and vice verse.

                      2) Run the game with -nohomedir. If you have changed the location of your "My Documents" folder the game may not recognise where the folder is now located. To remedy this issue, you can run the game with the -nohomedir switch to force the game to place the game folders locally.

                      a) Right click on the UT3 shortcut located on your desktop by default and select Properties.
                      b) At the end of the Target Line type -nohomedir (Make sure to include a space before the -).
                      c) Run the game from the UT3 shortcut.

If you are experiencing an "Invalid CD Key" error after entering your CD Key correctly:

                      1) Double Check your work. A few common mistakes are made when entering your CD Key. Here is a few things to look for:

                      a) When two V's are to be entered back to back, it is commonly mistaken as a W.
                      b) Sometimes the CD Key is slightly cut off at the top. When this happens, U's will commonly look like O's or 0's.
                      b) When the CD Key is slightly cut off at the bottom, the Q's can often look like O's or 0's

This is not the limit of common mistakes, but gives you a good idea of what to look for when entering your CD Key.

                      2) Create a new Windows User Account. Creating a new Windows User Account has been known to fix the "Invalid CD Key" issue. The steps to create a new account are very similar between Windows XP and Windows Vista:

                      a) Click on Start > Control Panel
                      b) Click on User Accounts

                      Windows XP:
                      c) Click on Add. (or Create a New Account)
                      d) Follow the instructions to create a new Standard User Account or Admin Account.

                      Windows Vista:
                      c) Click on Manage Another Account
                      d) Click Create a New Account

                      After creating your new account:
                      e) Log off the account you are currently using. (Note: Do not 'Switch Users'. You will need to be Logged Out of the account.)
                      f) Log in with the newly created account.
                      g) Run the game and try your CD Key again.
