DVD won't read disc.

My DVD drive is a SONY DVD RW DW-U10A with firmware 1.1d.

I understand the copy protection of recent games require me to update my firmware however I have attempted to find the firmware updates for download online and cannot seem to find software that works (downloaded some japanese program which did'nt recognise the drive so could not update.)

Would be grateful for some help thank you.

Just tried both links, they both link to the version of the driver that does'nt recognise my drive as updatable.

I have been doing some research with google and found out this drive is no longer supported by Sony and therefore the firmware that exists does'nt recognize drives with firmware 1.1c or 1.1d and only updates drives with firmware 1.1a and 1.1b.

Really confusing I agree but I cannot install UT3 and I'm a bit ticked off I have to buy a new drive.

An alternative would be to have someone to lend you an external dvd-drive and install the game from there...the dvd disc in the player isn't required to play...

well I dont have any friends with external drives, my uncle has an internal drive I suppose I could borrow just to install
