Low Vs High graphics in framerate

I've posted this issue back when the game was still in beta testing with the demo. I figured the issue woulda been fixed or there would be more optional video settings to configure my graphics level to fit my personal performance needs.

Anyway let me get onto the point. Adjusting world detail and texture detail has very slight change in how well the game performs on my machine, going from 1 to 5 on both gives me no more then a 10 fps difference on nearly every map, anywhere on the map.

    Specs:
    HD2900 1 gig
    400wat powersupply
    4200 amd x2
    2 gigs ddr
    Vista 32

I relise my cpu isnt really up to par with my gpu, my ram isnt very suitable being only ddr while using vista, and overall the horrid bottle neck of my weak 400 wat ps thats clearly bringing my rig to a crawl, its amazing it even works with my card. I understand that I could potentially damage my gpu or other parts, but I have reason to believe its actually preserving my gpu, seeing as its underclocking it. If not then there goes 400 bux...

    Resolution - 1280x768
    Screen Percentage - 100
    Texture Detail - 1
    World Detail - 1

    Resolution - 1440x900
    Screen Percentage - 100
    Texture Detail - 5
    World Detail - 5

I'd like to note that I'm using 7.12 cat drivers. I actually got well around 60 to 50 fps in that area with 7.10 and 7.11, I refuse to roll back to 7.11 though seeing as the game was extremely choppy with them even though I had decent fps.

well, I think this means that your cpu is bottlenecking your graphics card. Unfortunately you are in that difficult spot where to upgrade your cpu performance, you will have to buy a new mb and ram and ps. The 400 watt ps is a bit iffy but probably the bigger problem is the cpu bottleneck

Ya must be some kind of cpu limitation. Try overclocking it of a few hundred Mhz or else if you got an AM2 motherboard, get a cheap 6000+. You power supply is just fine but under 400 it would had been too little.

btw, 1Gb videocard = waste of money

A sub-par PSU could cause crashing and reboots but it won't slow your rig down, and I think the reason you're not getting a bigger jump in fps when you turn the video settings down is that the framerate is capped at 62 fps.

not offline, I get well around 200 fps on the HOLP map pack.

I get an ati warning when I boot up my computer that my powersupply isnt strong enough, and that its automatically underclocking my card in power.

Why don't you upgrade it then? You should get better performance.

that would've been wise to mention before

do what your computer tells you - buy a bigger psu.
equally if you can afford it try to get a better cpu, yours is dated.

Also have an ATI HD2900 XT card.

BTW, according to several tech sites, the 2900 eats between 215(idle) and 300(full) watts of power by itself. Um...those aren't exact numbers, but the full load is over 300 watts...so you definitely need a larger psu on your machine.

BTW, i don't know if this matters, but i have:
                AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
                2GB DDR400 Ram
                ATI HD2900XT 512

All settings set to maximum, resolution at 1680x1050 and i get no stutters or slowdowns...average fps is between 45-80 depending on the level. Remember, this isn't crysis people.

Speaking of Crysis, I get well over 50 fps on lowest graphics, where as on UT3 I dont even get above 45 at most times on lowest.

                      Fraps does the job.
