Why servers do not require cd-keys?

Yo,i have a question.And this is a dumb question.
I have a fully legit copy of UT3 and legit cd-key,but the problem is that i can't connect to most servers.
And about my friend.He has an UT3 with generated cd-key and he can connect to almost every server.Why is that?

I think you need to portforward. do some research and find the right port to forward, I'm sure you can find somewhere on this page.

Also make sure you do not have special characters in your player name. That can sometimes cause a problem where you cannot see servers.

I would like to configure my ports,but the problem is that I don't know how to do that...How can i configure my ports so i can play UT3 online?
