    Freezing, help with low end ATi cards?

    everyone seems to be talking about Nvidia.. anyone know how to sort out the issues with the ATi cards? i have a radeon 9600XT (256mb).. bets on how quick long it takes someone to go 'change to NVIDIA LULZ!'

    u are just scraping the barrel with that card anyways to run on minimum specs, the amount of tweakin this game needs u would end up blowing that card up, id forget about it

        I have an Ati x800 and I have lockups, too. However I am not sure if they are related to the ATI card though, I think the game itself is has still some stability problems. If you want help you need to tell us when those crashes occur? Error messages? Back to desktop crashes or if your system freezes completely, etc... And you can post the errors or the last stuff from your UT3 log file. (My Documents\MyGames\UT3\UTGames\Logs\)

          Hi PCKiller. I'm hazy on what issues you're having? Are you just looking for opinions on ATI or is there something stopping you from playing UT3?

          Thanks!

            I have a laptop with ATI X1400 card, 256 mb.

            I can play some maps, others have "snow" on them and I can't see anything but the snow.

            Other maps I can play I have details medium to low settings and even then I find it very hard to shoot people as they are in front of me one second, then behind me the next and I did not see them pass me.

            Also I am the last one to get into a map as it takes a long time for my video card and processor to load the graphics.

            Good luck. Hope you are able to run it.

              hey guys

              sorry for lack of detals!

              i thought that everyone was having the same basic problem? ie i can get into an online game or a compaign match but after a couple of minutes the screen goes black, my monitor turns off (as if its getting no signal) and then sometimes it comes back and i can play for a few minutes untill it goes completely and i have to hard reboot.

                Gonna throw out some ideas for you to try. First of all, download the latest Catalyst drivers, uninstall your current ones, then reinstall the new ones.

                Then go to:

                My Documents\MyGames\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config

                Then edit the UTEngine.ini

                [Engine.ISVHacks]
                bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True
                DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=False
                PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True

                Make sure the settings match those above. If not, change them to match them.

                Also, you are welcome to try the tweaks listed in my thread that is linked in my sig, but I'd recommend you try the above first.

                  9600 is by no means a bad card. It's exceptional. It should have no problem playing UT3, Call of DUty 4, etc on full settings.

                    Err... No, it's not exceptional by today's standards. It's 3/4 generations old. I believe it should run on low settings. I have an ATI card and everything seems fine, no lockups. Have you installed the latest drivers from ATI?
