If your computer already shuts down while copying files from a DVD to your hard disc it would probably implode the second you ran the actual executable...

    So:

    Make sure it's not overheating?
    Clean out your case?
    Reinstall windows?
    All of the above?

Or at least post what your machine is made of (aka specs) - just posting "it does something bad when I do this" without specifying details will only result in us saying "don't do this, then..."

Flaky device driver for the DVD drive.
      Heat.
      HD problem.

If you set windows to bluescreen instead of rebooting it would most likely provide a hint as to the device.

could also be a RAM problem. Check your systems ram using memtest and also try using burnin test which checks cdrom dvd rom gfx audio ram and hard drive too. check out some computing forums for more tools just to be sure.

Try copying the DVD content to your harddrive and install via that.

i got it to install after updating the drivers, but im getting a runtime error now. i updatd .net software to 2.0. then to 3.5

still gives error and i see a wierd code at the top before it crashes:

Ugh. I'd hazard a guess that something in your system is wonky so reading or writing large amounts of data from/to your hard drive leads to data corruption - RAM would be a prime candidate, for instance.

Grab WinMerge and have it compare the content of your DVD with the files you copied to your hard disc; if it reports any differences something (most probably hardware related) went majorly wrong while copying the files...

it smells like ram, except the behavior of it shuting down at 50% each time - restarts due to dying ram are seemingly random. the MS memory diagnostics tool is very good, even 1 error in the test and you will need to replace one of your ram sticks.
