I think the most frustarting thing is the PC's

i barely exceed your specs (got AMD64 4000+ (2,4GHz), 7800GTX 256MB PCIe, 2GB Ram) and it runs pretty horrible here (18-34 fps on lowest quality settings (1/1) ).
using latest drivers, directx and all the other config tweaks/tricks/blabla that was posted here or elsewhere to no avail.
other games like BioShock (which even uses the same engine), CoD4 or TimeShift run great compared to UT3.

If someone has an 8800 and a dual core and they're getting horrible frames per second, it's their problem, not the games. I have a similar machine to that, and I seldomly drop under 50 fps with every option at max on a resolution of 1920x1200. Even then, it's a completely playable framerate.

        My Build:

        A8N32 SLI Deluxe
        AMD x2 4200 oc@ 2.4ghz (Socket 939)
        2x 1GB Dual Channel Kingston Hyper X
        BFG nVidia 7800 GTX OC
        SB XFI Xtreme Gamer
        350 Seagate Sata2
        Windows XP

        (Latest drivers/ Bios)

        Resolution: 800x600
        Textures/World: 1/1
Runs fine @ avg. 55-60fps online.
        - Looks like UT99!

*My only problem is that UT3 crashes on Deck everytime the players are near the slime pit and boots area. GG Epic!

I have and LCD with 1680x1050 wide screen playing 1028x768 it seems usually play better at resolutions closer to there native resolutions. I did not check my FPS in game
but it's very playable so i'm guessing 40-60 fps.
            Good for you.

We have become a captive audience to their game.

All we can do is wait for Epic to release their patch.

not everybody with the cash to blow on a killer system also has the ability or inclination to spend the time it may well take to maintain and troubleshoot it.

PCs are open architecture, and thus by their nature can be more than a little high maintenance.

I don't recall visiting forums for any PC games, that weren't featuring complaints from PC owners unable to understand why it wouldn't run great on their machine, right out of the box.

Don't upgrade to the "latest" drivers. That doesn't prevent them from sucking horribly.
I have very good results with the Nvidia 163.76
