Att: Steve Polge, UT3 protected by VAC?

Are there any chances we will se UT3 protected by VAC in the future?
Ive read that UE2 is supported by VAC so its not that far fetched?

BTW good job with the recent announcments

since there is a retail and a steam version of UT3, how will you bring it together??

steam version with VAC and retail without?

maybe it's easy to integrate it in an early development state, but after such a long time... i doubt it.

I have never accused anyone of cheating, but some mighty strange things have happened to me in online play... It would be sweet to know it was just lag/glitching and not somebody being a ***** on purpose. However that is accomplished, it should be in a way that will restore confidence to the community. Valve seems pretty solid, and per wikipedia has resulted in increased game sales when banned users reform and buy another copy. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Anti-Cheat ). Cheers! (Except cheaters... To he11 with you all)

VAC can run only with steam. A game cannot have a cheat protection only for certain version and other not. UT3 will not integrate VAC system. Steam version is the same of the retailed, it has only an idiot system of achives and you must run steam before run it. This are the different.

PS: I'm not attaccking steam, for some things I love it

An anti cheat system is only **** in the gamecode. VAC is futile, punkbuster is futile. The best anti-cheat system is a demo/record function or/and a good server-admin.

Yes it is, and how is that demo system in UT3 working now anyway?

Today's bots are far to good for a simple demo to always work. Beynd, Stewie, Demon and dozens other where all accused but always hard to prove without a tcc catch. THe best I have seen is Xray (which requires a client install that many oppose, me included) and an experimental system called hit plots that was created on Pro Unreal to try and catch Beynd. It required demos but was probably the best I have ever seen. I admined both TWL and CAL along with several tournaments.

Red Orchestra (UE2) uses VAC on STEAM so its pretty obvious it can be done.
My question was if UT3 will have VAC protection in the future.

Obviously this will never be answered cus UT3 was released with no anti-cheat system. This is because UT3 is unhackable.

Let's hope not, or at least is made by Epic. Please don't suggest even more intrusive software coming from other devs. GS is already hard to put up with

                      http://www.dfbgaming.com/ut3_stats/i...stat_type=pure

Go through each page of top players and sort by ratio. See if there are any familiar names Some are legitimate (e.g. they tank ***** or snipe alot so have good ratio) but i spy a few botters in their too. Botters can't hide the fact that it makes them have better stats than mere mortals, in some cases by orders of magnitude

If you run through the stats, there are maybe 10 botters in the whole community, including all game types. It's a great testament to Epic's network code. Is fixing it further really worth the development effort? It sounds like a job for an admin to me.

Nah not really necessary, if the netcode was written in such a way that it worked like zeroping maybe. The only way aim botters can really take full advantage of UT3's lack of anti cheat is to host their own server. Glitches and bugs are what needs to be looked at rather. Plus don't underestimate how good a player can become in UT3, some of them have a natural aimbot embedded in their brains that can actually lead and predict target movement.

This is really a stupid statement that is related to the fact you do not know how a cheat works. Simply UT3 so far has not had such a great number of followers and competition to bring the cheater scene to be interested that much in the game. Unfortunately, cheaters exists. I am working on a new generation of anticheat right now for a project of the Politecnico of Milan that hopefully will help the game to avoid not cheats but cheating strategies, much different than AntiTCC and any other anticheat like that.

quoted for truth. Lack of a quality demo and full version players not being able to play vs demo players also cut out the hacks. I've only encountered only 1 cheater since this game came out but I account that to cheaters needing an audience to show off the 733+ hacks to. In UT2k4 I had a list that contained approx 45 haxors....The cheaters have moved on to other games that actually have more than 500 people playing.

I've banned 3 aimbots in the last 10 days on the new players DM server, two of them last night.
