    .uz3 Download Problem

    Both my server and client are patched to 1.2. I am unable to get .uz3's to download. I believe that i had my server set up correctly and I uploaded the compressed maps to my redirect but my client will not download them. I have been using the redirect since patch1.1 without any problem. What am I doing wrong?

    I had my UTEngine.ini set this way:

    [IpDrv.HTTPDownload]
    RedirectToURL=http://www.myredirect/
    UseCompression=True
    ProxyServerPort=
    ProxyServerHost=

    You say you have been using the redirect but have you been using it with compressed files or non compressed files?

    I have not heard of anyone having a working "Compressed" file server to client transfer yet and I would bet that this will not work and if it does would really not be too useful for published/cooked maps but im just not sure!

      i've been using it with uncompressed files. I realize the compression doesn't compress it down much more, but it can trim 5-6mb out of a large 40+mb map.

        Well you would think if you have allowdownloads=true and usecompression=true then it should work but like I said I dont know of anyone that has tried pushing a compressed file from until now.

        PM me your redirect address and I will try to see if I can send route a file from my server to client.

        Im well schooled in possible .ini issues and might be able to give you an answer after I test this. Ill look to see if gameservers has any compressed files yet and if they do ill try to push one server to client.

        EDIT: I see no compressed files yet on gameservers so the only other thing might be the int.upk for the map might need to be on the site with the map but its not getting pushed so ??

            i can confirm compression is working, i have my server set to use compressed files, and it works great...too bad file don't get compressed much. but hey,at least 4or5 mb is better than notting.

              I figure it should work so he probably has the .ini set wrong or the address for the redirect might be wrong.

              So wolverine for the map on your redirect do you have just the compressed map or both compressed an non compressed and also do you have the map.int_upk also on your redirect compressed or non compressed or both?

              [PAIN]*ShinMessiah You use a command prompt from the binaries folder where the main server files are then have the map or file in there then open the command prompt then use ut3.exe compress then a space then drag the map map or file in the box then press enter then wait a minute or 2.

              It will make the compressed file in the mydocs binaries folder then.

              EDIT: Also I tried to upload a .uz3 compressed to gameservers and it did not take it so as I said earlier there are no compressed files on that public redirect as of yet!

                i use "ut3 compress" by epitaph for the compression. and i only compress the .ut3 file.

                i don't compress into my "binaries folder", i've made a path to new folder....i call it "Compressed" you can called what you like...lol. anyhow then all i do is put the maps i want in that folder,open ut3compress drag and drop all the maps in it, wait few minutes,and i'm done. upload the maps to redirect and call it a day!

                and this is what i have in my
                UTEngine.ini

                [IpDrv.HTTPDownload]
                RedirectToURL=http://www.yourredirecthere.com/redirectfolderpath/
                ProxyServerHost=3128
                ProxyServerPort=3128
                UseCompression=True

                hope that was kinda helpfull... goodluck bud!

                EDIT: correct! you must have a private redirect, most public redirects as of now are not using ".uz3" files.

                  Dont think it matters where you compress the file to as long as its on the redirect site and the UTGame.ini and redirect site address is correct.

                  Anyway good luck to all!

                  EDIT: WoLvErInE
                  Do you have allowdownloads=True ??

                      AllowDownloads=True just means the server (game server) allows a client to DL the file if it's not on the redirect server. To test redirect, change AllowDownloads to =False.

                        What do you actually mean?, do you get a connection failed, slow downloads or is filesize the same as the uncompresssed version?.

                        I've had compression working on my server for a while now, no problems. See this thread http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/sho...d.php?t=603110 to help troubleshoot the problem. You say you have been using the redirect since patch 1.1 with no problem, are your uncompressed files still on the redirect, maybe it is pushing them rather than the uz3's? To test this add another folder to your redirect, put the uz3's in there and redirect ut3 server to that folder and see if it downloads them. Change

                        [IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
                        AllowDownloads=False

                        This will stop the server pushing the file itself so if it can't find it on redirect you'll get a connection failed error. This is a good way of clarifying it is actually coming from the redirect and not the ut3 server itself.

                        int.upk does not need to be on redirect, in fact anything with _LOC_ doesn't need to be on redirect, only the map (.ut3) and any other texture packages for it (.upx, if any), and .u's if using a mutator.

                          you sir are correct! only reason why i leave it on "True" is we have to many admins, and just incase the forget to put the files on redirect.

                          besides if you have "Compression" set to "True" and you don't have the file to download of redirect you get an error downloading file. thats if "AllowDownloads=False"
