Redirection will be fixed in the next beta patch release. Compression will not, but I plan to get to it for the second patch

It means that custom maps will not be compressed... I imagine only direct downloads will work...

You can run redirect without compression. The content would just be larger and thus take longer to download. But it should still be VERY much faster than a direct download.
