anyone know the path to adding custom maps on server? it's different than when you add them on your home/local pc. this is for my rental server. thanks in advance
if i remember correxctly, compressed redirect isnt in yet so the maps would have to be dl straight from the server. which would take ages now and undoubtedly lag the server even more than before
Game servers are not file servers therefore you need to "redirect" your client to a different download area so the maps/mods can be downloaded in a more resonable time frame. And even with the redirect I'm not even sure compression is working which is what was used in 2k4 and 99.

While I totally understand your point (and its a valid one) hes talking more like 20 minutes to download - not 2. Without a redirect the server will send data at the MaxClientRate which is set to 10000 bytes (~10Kb/sec) by default. Imagine downloading a 20meg map at that rate.
remember dling maps that go at .1% every other second...that was on the smaller maps of 04....now imagin that 3x worse for ut3. 20mins is optimistic. the map would likely be over by the time the dl is done. or youd lag the server so bad youd run everyone off it

In addition to that...
Setting up your pub? server with no working redirect will not only tick people off, everyone will soon come to know which servers to stay away from and your server will start to aquire a bad rep. This has been true with every game out there that provides custom content and game servers without proper working or configured redirects.
So if your willing to chance it go ahead but it would be best then in that case to keep it a private server and just give the custom maps to your friends/clan members. That way common pub'rs dont have to go thru the hassle of connecting only to find out its going to take forever to join and ultimately leave in frustration.
we need to know ... unreal for me its always modded ... since ut99 but now its just vanilla server that it....
we need a redirect now because we cant have server with different favor like all ut i know before ut3 ....
im a fan of unreal but now im disapointed ... no webadmin or remote console admin ... no redirect ... cheap menu etc...
we have a big communauty since ut99 and we create map, mutator, skin for have fun ..... and this is why i like unreal for its many possible server configuration ...
