    Freezing in-game to black screen

    As I am playing (Runs great-Medium settings at 30-60fps) minutes into the game it freezes with sound looping and seconds later the monitor shuts off and I am forced to reboot.

    Windows XP Home + SP2
    MSI Radeon X1900xt
    Catalyst 7.10
    1280x1024@60hz
    AMD Athlon64 3800+ 2.4GHz s939
    1GB Corsair DDR400

    Notes:
    Tried .ini to True; AMD hotfix, no sound acceleration -- did not work
    VGA, CPU, soundcard, monitor, motherboard, bios, updated w/ latest drivers
    Bioshock (UE3) works
    System temps are normal
    No overclocking at all
    Other games that freeze similarly - Source engine; Serious Sam 2; Battlefield 2/2142
    To launch game must Rclick--run as user--(current user) [same w/ Bioshock and ETQW]
    emailed logs.
    EDIT: installed OpenAL (though its not used -- SB Live! 24-bit doesn't have it) did not help.

      madmossy, you can see my system spec in my signature,
      I can confirm that disabling OpenAl in the audio setting WILL make the game work without crashes. SO yes to confirm again, Creative drivers are not supporting OpenAL or what ever it could be at the moment, though our card ( SB X-Fi extremegamer) is supposed to support OpenAL.

      This is too bad, The OpenAL really gives awesome sound experience and actually boosts the fps a little.

      Hopefully, new drivers will fix this..

        This seems to be an issue with the ATI HD 2900 XT cards. UT3 runs BEAUTIFULLY as long as it's in a window, but crashes the whole computer after a while if it's in full screen. I also had to turn off post processing just because it looks SO BAD at ANY resolution!

        I have the latest drivers...Except that the drivers are obviously screwed up, because ever since I installed the UT3 demo, almost every game crashes in full screen after a while. I'm still trying to fix my drivers (just uninstalling and reinstalling isn't working)

        I have no idea if this game even has anything to do with it. It's just an odd cooincidence that I suddenly developed these problems exactly the day I installed this demo.

          I can't stay logged into my UT3 profile longer than 1 map on any server or instant action. I play, then when the map ends i get logged out of my UT3 profile. I have to then relogin to the profile and rejoin the server or restart the instant action map. Is there any fix for this game hindering problem?

              Hooray following the advice further back about changing the ini file setting to true and switchin off the avg worked and I can now play the demo.The nerd lives only to die ut 3 rocks I love it, now how do I get it to look pretty instead of like I just drank to much thanks guys..

                geforce 4mx is below minimum specs, which would most likely be the cause of why the game isnt starting for you mate.

                Game requires minimum Shader Model 2.0 which unfortunately the Geforce MX series does not support.

                    Um it says your problem is that you dont have atleast shader model 2.0 what graphics card are u running because i doubt you have that crappy of a card to not have shader model 2.0. It might be a bug or UT3 does not req your card.

                    Does this game not run on Radeon on something because i have a Radeon 9800 Pro. I hope i can atleast run this game on lowest settings or im gonna have to wait to get my way better comp back from my grandfather as i got it taken away. Anyways my specs are.

                    Windows xp sp2
                    Unknow cpu type-amd 2.4 ghz (its overclocked to this) its a mobile cpu on a desktop mobo.
                    Radeon 9800 pro
                    1 gig of ddr2 ram
                    Onboard sound card
                    A7n8x-E deluxe mobo

                      The nerd has broke it went into the infile changed that setting he was talking about to true and saved it then closed down avg and it worked my god it worked I can play it I can play it I can play it yeeeeeeeeeehhhhaaaa I can play it at last at last.Hang on I will just take my tablets and I will be ok...

                        The demo runs perfectly for me unless I use the OpenAL option. Whenever I turn that on, it crashes. MY soundcard is a creative labs x-fi fatal1ty. This is the only time UT3 will crash on me.

                        My other specs are 2x8800 GTX 768mgb cards in SLI, 4 gigs of ram, windows XP 32-bit, Intel quad core 2.93ghz overclocked to 3.47ghz.

                            OpenGL? If you're not talking about OpenAL, the UT3 Demo does not have OpenGL support.

                              Okey, i just played for 1,5 h with the Audio setting - OpenAl to be activated without any crashes!

                              What I did?
                              I downloaded this
                              http://developer.creative.com/articl...&top=38&aid=46
                              on the bottom of the page u can see oalinst.exe attached.

                              It should work for all Creative X-Fi soundcards.
                              This enables OpenAl support in the game to work.

                              Let me know if it still doesent help, beause then i need to tell my friend who works in creative
