Whats the best Editor to use for coding?

Whats the best Editor for coding?

I am currently using WOTREAL. Its working good. Just checking what everyone else is doing?

I wanted to make some GUI , whats good to use for this?

I think a lot of people use WOTgreal. I use Notepad myself, mostly because I can't be arsed to download and install anything else.

there is no best editor
about all editors have syntax hilighting, etc..
just use the one you like best.
I myself still use EditPlus for all my editoing work (that includes UnrealScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, ...) - www . editplus . com

I use Delphi myself, because I've got it already and the editor can do all I want it to.

I refuse to use anything that I would have to pay for if there's a freeware equivalent available.

That's quite an overhead you get (mem usage/ cpu usage/ loading time).
I rather use a small text editor than a full featured IDE (unless I could use the features (compiler/debugger/..) that the IDE provided for that programming language)

There's some pretty sweet GUI functionality built into UT2K3.

if you hit "CTRL ALT D" you can then CTRL CLICK any gui object inside the main one (they will turn white showing its hilighted)

Then if you hit the ALT key (dont let go of CTRL) you can move the selected object with your mouse.

You can re-size the guiObject using CTRL and the +/- symbols (keypad does width, other does height)

The coolest part is: You can now CTRL C while on a moved, resized object and then ALT TAB out of UT back into your editor and CTRL V the new properties!!

you kiddin me? that pretty cool GW4043 i gotta test that.

As for editors I've tested just about all of them.. and WOTGreal seems to be the best. Lots of great features.. Only prob is if you don't wanna pay for it the nag screen gets longer and longer. If your serious about UScript though it's worth the money.

WOTREAL is just using all the functions that exist in UCC. Why do we need to play for it then?? Stupid.
AND, it crashes on me too. :bulb:

you pay for the editor itself, not for the compile feature.
wotgreal only uses ucc for compiling, and normal exporting. every other feature is done by wotgreal.

As with all "what is the best tool for..." threads, I think the answer is "whatever suits you and the way you work"...myself, I use notepad and that's enough for what I do, others might find that too restricting, but it suits me fine.

It helps if you have syntax highlight, tabs to open several documents at once, line numbers and also a cool feature called FOLDING where the functions can be folded so that big classes can be overlooked and navigated more easy.
