    do a completely opaque layer to start, then do a couple rocks layers and such, and maybe a grass, depending on what your modelling for...

    Unless you want it jagged, at least slightly smooth everything.

    Use a bunch of layers, it makes it look more awesome when u use MULTIPLE textures.

    Don't forget decolayers.

    Pick a terrain size and stick to it, never go over 512x512 for performance reasons, ALYWAS keep it square, or the terrain will work, but the layers will GPF.

    Finally, if u want it bigger, or to be faster-rendering, turn up the scale(the X,Y,Z one in the TerrainInfo part of default properties)..
