Yes. The PLE. It works great. Do you own a full out version of Maya 4.5?
I saw an ActorX demo for Maya 5.0 at Siggraph late last year, buy 3dBuzz.com. Logan demonstrated that it works pretty flawlessly. They were impressed. You might want to upgrade.
if you know of any other way or plug in please tell me
Yes. there is another way. It's a plugin that came bundled with the UT2k3 CD. There is a newer build/version of Maya 4.5 that requires an updated plugin that you can download from multiple places. I don't remember where, right off the top of my head.
This is where you should go:
UnrealTechnology has a really nice VTM (video training module) that shows you how to get the latest plugin and install it correctly. http://sv1.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/unr_main.php
I export out directly from UED into Maya using it.
because I was testing with simple obejcts liek a cylinder etc...
I was using ActorX autotriangulate option....this is what was gigving me strange results of course... since it creats new edges by itself and it may go banas on hard and soft on the new edges...
so if anyone had same overlooking issue...
make sure you triangulate before exporting as well as hard/soft edit all the new triangulated edges.. and it will work fine...
I did try that before posting...
but what happens is that on model with both hard and soft edges when showing in UT2003 only part of the hard edges show, some of the hard edges still show soft...
