    Couple of Qus

I started learning unrealEd a couple of days ago, can do the basics but gotta couple of questions:

    1) I've used custom textures in my map, would I need to add that texture package to the ServerPackages list or would it automatically be downloaded alongside the map when it is downloaded from the server?

    2) Whats the best way to rotate player spawns to choose the direction they point towards? I tried a couple of things, not working out too well

    3) If I wanted to create a 3D object, does this have to be done as a static mesh in an external program? For example if I wanted to create a bed, table, chair, banister etc. or could I do this in unreal ed, creating a shape in with it wrapping a texture around it?

    Thanks in advance, smaz

Best places to search are UDN and UnrealWiki.

    1. Custom content should always be put into MyLevel.

    2. If you mean PlayerStarts, then simply rotating the "joystick" actor so the arrow points in the desired direction does the trick.
Rotation can be accomplished with the Ctrl+RightMouse or by changing the Movement.Rotation.Yaw value in the actor Properties (0=0 degrees, 8192=90, 16384=45, 32768=180, 49152=270, etc.).

    3. In most cases "decoration" type items should be StaticMesh as SM's have lots of advantages over CSG (BSP Brushes), especially for small and usually complex items.
You can do limited 3D objects in UnrealEd using the standard CSG Add/Sub brushes.
Don't create a CSG object though and convert it to a StaticMesh in UnrealEd.
Look on your UT2004 discs, a copy of Maya PLE is there. Or use any of the other available 3D applications.

I went to install Maya and it needs a CD Key, which it says to register for - registering says that it won't work for versions less than 7, is there any other way to get a key/is there one included with the game?

        Sorry, I don't use Maya, I own 3DS Max.
I would assume there should be something on the CD... perhaps a readme.

Alias stopped giving out keys for Maya 5 PLE last Xmas. You'll have to download Maya 7 PLE, get a key, and use it instead.

you could do it with UED. but you don't want to. You **really**
            don't want to.

            i refer you here: http://www.angelmapper.com/tutorials/uedmeshes.htm

I refer you to here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...112&id=6902573

            then here: http://udn.epicgames.com/Two/MayaCompletePlugins

Autodesk bought out alias and no longer supports Maya PLE version 5.0 but there is Maya 7 (see above) and a UT2004 UED plugin (see under that)
