Mip maps on characters: yes or no?

I probably wouldn't be surprised by the outcome of this, but I had to pose this question just out of curiosity.

I ask because of two things. 1. My skins, and models in general just look awful when fully "mipped" out. and 2. I did a test and one skin file was 2,049kb as a dds dxt1 without mips, and with mips it was 2,731. When you add that together over the course of a few skins over a few models, it can add up.

But then of course there's the performance issue. Always high quality tex = always greater cpu demand. Though personally I find the need more for level textures than for model textures.

    So what does everyone think?

Textures look NASTY at a distance when there's no mip maps - you get the dreaded sparklies. Look at the team colored freekboy necris skins for an example of how bad it can look.

Yeah, no doubt. Use mip maps, every other character uses it, why make your's an exception?
