So I want to start making a mod...

Okay, I am an artist, and also a mid-range programmer. I want to just work on a mod in my spare time, and I am not really requesting anyone's help here...

I want to make a third person action adventure mod, which I know will be a ton of work, but I am feeling ambitious, and want to try it.

Problem is, how the hell do i start this? How do you go about starting a single player mod? Can anyone point me in the right direction? LInks? Tutorials? Anything! Thanks!

as your first mod, start with something simple. modify a weapon or two and then have them automatically switch themselves for their original counterpart. i take it you didn't get the dvd version, because there are some very good vtms on it.

www.3dbuzz.com for some good forums with great people willing to help you out. eventually, you'll be able to download the very vtms that are actually on the dvd.

I did get the bonus pack, and have been watching the vtm's... I have mapped levels before, and I understand how the modifications to levels work and all that... I have done modeling, animation, texturing, some programming, etc. I just don't know how to start out on a full-blown mod.

Step 1: Figure out what you want your mod to be. (Design)
Step 2: Figure out if you can do it by yourself or if you need others to help and/or have the time to do it (Logistics)
Step 3: Get the mod directory setup using -mod switch http://bazzinet.info/EpicModSystem.html
Step 4: Start subclassing some of the major classes like Gametype, Pawn, PlayerController and hook them up to each other. You'll have to search for tutorials/or the wiki/udn for the how to. http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/ http://udn.epicgames.com/Main/WebHome
-Notice that you dont need any content or additional functionality to get to this point. You can just put a log statement in your classes PostBeginPlay function to verify you are using your classes.
Step 5: Add content and additional functionality till you have reached your desired mod.
Step 6: Rinse and Repeat.
