Unreal Tournament 2004 - Bubblegum Crisis model conversion

I asked previously asked, and now I know it is possible somehow.

There are a model/skin-pack to the UT3 about a classic show, Bubblegum Crisis. I downloaded and tried to extract the UPK and edit the files, but the UnrealED 2.xx can not able to handle those files, neither able to convert it to more common extension. Too bad, I never was good in 3D modelling and editing. So I must to ask for help.

    http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/...te-08-31-09%29

If it is possible, someone can remake this into an UT2004 skinpack, or just a single skin from the pack. I not want any special, just the model with the skin. I hope this is not too much troublesome request for a new forum member.

I just really like the Bubblegum show.

if your able to extract the upk, that means you should be able to see the psk files already

meaning the anim and the mesh are already there.

you just have to skin the model if you really want to use it

I have a couple of minutes before I return to work, so I'll give you an example:

I see, and yes. I got the PSK files, but I was unable to load those with the UnlreaED. It require a different program?

Basically this was my inexperience's great drawback. But I try it again. Your example is quite good for start off from it.

I got it. The problem was I tried to load the mesh data in a wrong option. Thank You, that pictures helped me a lot.

But it is still not load the extracted files. The files are in .SkeletalMesh format, and the program can not load, even I ignore the extensions.

what you want would be the .psk file

for the models extracted, the arms, torso, head, thigh, boots, etc are seperated into different meshes

to use them properly, you would need to combine said meshes, THEN skin them using the proper skeleton

you would need a 3d program for this, in my case I use 3ds Max

Ooh I see. Then the included editor is not able to do this. I will try out other programs to combine them and than the editor will able to load these.

I downloaded the 3Ds Max. I realize it is shareware, so only the trial version is available. I don't know this is the problem or something else, but I can not open the .SkeletalMesh files, or the .package files.

i'm assuming you have already extracted the files from the upk

if you have, you will see several folders in there

in the folders there are some psk files which you can import(assuming your using a legit 3ds max) via Actor X Importer/Exporter plugin for 3ds max

import the psk's one by one(head, torso, thigh, boot, shoulderpad, arms) till it forms the complete figure. Once you do that you can start skinning.

for skinning information, you can rely on one of those skinning tutorials over the web

once you have finished skinning your model to the appropiate ut2004 skeleton, you can export it via the aforementioned actor X plugin

remember, when in doubt, ask google, cause more or less you'll find your answers there

Yes, I was able to extract the UPK files, and I got some folders, and some other files. But these have .SkeletalMesh extension. I don't know if these files are the PSK files, but the program can not recognize it, I'm unable to open it. Maybe I did something wrong during the extraction.

This is my first attempt with the 3D editing.

In my freetime I tried to do something about this. I downloaded different programs to extract the UPK, but all of them extracted the same files. I can't open these files with any freeware 3D editor, neither my friend can't with the shareware version. The only problem is my inexperience. But I never wanted to be a pro 3D developer. I just try to get these four models, because my interest in the Bubblegum Crisis.

                      What extractor are you using?

If your using umodel, you should already be seeing 3 folders, MaterialInstanceConstant, SkeletalMesh3, and Texture2D.

The PSK files are in the SkeletalMesh3 folder, which like I said you would need to import it into your 3d program.

The textures are in the Texture2d folder which you can use as textures for your model.

Since you said your using 3ds max, use your actor X plugin(assuming you have that already) to import the aforementioned PSK files individually.

For example, I'm gonna use Priss as an example. In the SkeletalMesh3 folder you can see these files:

                      - BBGC_Priss_Arms.psk
                      - BBGC_Priss_Boots.psk
                      - BBGC_Priss_Head.psk
                      - BBGC_Priss_LShoPad.psk
                      - BBGC_Priss_RShoPad.psk
                      - BBGC_Priss_Thighs.psk
                      - BBGC_Priss_Torso.psk

import those and then start skinning your skeleton

It is a freeware program, only able to extract uncompressed UPK files. But I will try out the umodel, maybe it will work for me too.

****, I finally got it. Just misstyped something in the command before the extraction. Now I got those stupid PSK files. Now finally I can get started with the main dish. XD

Thank You for Your patience, and maybe I will ask more if I have problem again.

I tried to open the PSK files, but then it ask for the PSA files. But instead PSA, I jast have some MAT file. So I can not load the animation files.

Budboy, the pic you have above shows the model in unrealed with animations linked, is the model you have ready to play in game?

There are no PSA files on the file because you would have to make the anims yourself

this is why I mentioned you need to reskin your skeletal mesh; the skeleton is not aligned with the standard UT2004 skeleton

no the model I showed was skinned in like a couple of minutes, there would still be problems bone weight wise
