war of the worlds alien machine

ok, all is in the title : i want a vehicle wich is like the alien's tripod machines.
maybe it can fire like this : primary fire does a beam wich does massive damage and when someone dies of it, he de-rezes immediately, no ragdoll. secondary fire can fire a rope and if it hits an enemy, it brings to a capsule under the "head" of the machine. the guys trapped in the capsule lose health and give health to the vehicle.

(and could someone explain why did the aliens die? )

Normally I'd be a little skeptical about mods like this... movie vehicles -> in-game, etc.

But..... that movie was so freaking sweet: :up:

didn't find some of spielberg's film, but the old images are kinda representative : sort of insect like head, no real body, just head and legs. 2 lasers of doom firing from 2 arms (i found how the lasers work BTW : they drop the temperature of the persons hit until the water in the body freeze, making the cells and whole body explode.).

i think they died becouse of the water, there was something on it they got sick with

You people never read the book, or saw the original movie have you?

OMG you poor, sheltered fools.

They died from the germs on Earth. Humans are immune because they've been here for so long, but the aliens never built up an immunity.

yup, the moral is nobody dies in vein, humans paid the price of 10000 deaths to become immune. well that and dont get invaded

i like the idea though, you can never have enough walker vehicles

I'm a big fan of war of the worlds in general, so i'd love to see the tripod from speilberg's remake of the film in UT2004
of course, it's nigh-on impossible to find pics of it at the mo
there are some very close concept sketches on the net though, not to mention H G Well's original design (very retro )

Yeah, the aliens all die from bacteria in the atmosphere and from drinking human blood (which is also full of said bacteria)
Morgan Freeman even states it in his little commentary at the end of the film (taken right from the pages of the novel too ^_^)

Oh and toniglandyl, where did you find out how the tripod's weapons work? that sounds like a really interesting read
quite a nice little twist seeing as the original martian tripods had heat rays & melted everything (or burnt soft targets like humans to ash)

quick guess :
the clothes don't burn so heat can be unlikely, so maybe cold.
and after the lightnings, the small crater was freezing. (space cold maybe) i think the so said lightnings aren't lightnings but the same, more or less type of laser that the aliens shoot, and they use the "river" of particles to go down.
common, anyone?
also, if trapped people have grenades in their assault rifles or a grenade launcher with ammo, they can damage the vehicle by shooting in the hole. (other weapons do no damage though)

I figured that one out WITHOUT reading/viewing the oldies...

Anyhoo, it'd be pretty rocking to have one of them ingame - it'd be pretty **** big though, and the legs won't be easy to replicate. :bulb:



Also, am I the only one here who feels that HalfLife2 is a near COMPLETE ripoff of the movie/book/whatever??

True, but the strider itself is the alien entity, it's not piloted
and that warp cannon it has rocks
but yeah, someone was closely following war of the worlds when they created HL2

I don't recall the image exactly, but doesn't the car kind of collapse in on itself?

Great idea about the machines... If it is made...

Primary fire... Main disintegration blasters.
Secondary Fire... that crazy loud horn thing... make it so loud it blows out peoples ears.:up:

Alt fire should be the black smoke. They didn't use that in the movies and I was disappointed.

And if you didn't read the book: Read it. It's 100x better than that amazing movie.
