BR-LavaGiant New look and game play!

    Name: BR-LavaGiant4

    Version:1.0

    Compatibility: UT 2004 (ECE Recommended)

Description: Blood, sweat, and tears have built a lot of great things in our time. In the hellish heat of Purgatory's lava fields, they evaporate so quickly the only trace they leave behind is the grimy buildup on a prisoner's armor.

Comments: All bot pathing has been greatly expanded. Over 120 jump spots, and 15 points of enterance into each base for the bots. Weapons have been reorganized or added. All weapon ammo pickups have been redone. Each base now holds the ammo for all weapon types except super weapons. A redeemer missle has been added as well as a random super pickup. This will either be a super shield, Keg of life, or a double damage. Numerous decorations have been added. Crystal formations have been added as well as a green haze to resemble atmosphere. Lava jets have been added to the planet surface. All sounds have been redone or adjusted. Additional lighting was also added for decoration. All the zones around the play island have been either redone or moved. The zones on the border edges of the play area now cause damage so that bots can't get stuck along the edge. The lava zones have been raised and or adjusted so that you will always take damage or die when you get near or in the lava. A number of other fixes have been done here and there for balance and performance issues.

Well I wouldnt want to be mean but I didnt like it. CTF-Lavagiant in ut2k3 was a terrible copy of the original; looks like br version is no different.
Where to start, well first of all, maps this big r killing BR imo. They have big openings every here and there which turn Br into a xloc only match (like bifrost, colossus, serenity). BR maps should be small with some alternative routes to trick the enemy, and should have some blocks/walls as well to restrict xloc hype a bit (say like disclosure, anubis, ice, TT etc). This is the main reason I dont like this big Br maps.
Some more things that I didnt like:
-Main ball room is too small.
    -Other corridors r too narrow.
-I didnt like base layout either. After that outside area, bases look weak in design, small and lacks passing.
-Its bad to have only one entrance to each base (on foot).
Some extra routes (entrances) by sides could have been cool.
-I didnt like weapon placement. Especially RL. (But since map plays like 'ignore ppl, just concentrate on passing' as in those maps I mentioned above, it wont be used anyway.)
-From some angels, coz of the colors in background, its hard to see the ball.
-Btw whys that low grav effect near the slopes of hills?

Well. I didnt mean to be harsh . Maybe it will be just me who doesnt like it (tastes differ u know). Though, it could play well with 20+ ppl, dunno. Anyway, thank you for this map. Seeing new maps when the mod is no more popular is really nice. Keep up your good work

To some extent I agree with you. Lava Giant isn't the best BR map. The ball spawn is where it is by default. It had to be in the center of the two bases so no team had an advantage. I tried it on the top ridge. But the bots kept throwing it off the play area, resulting in a ball reset. If the ball was in either side hallway. Then the main play wouldn't take place in the middle. Again resulting in to many ball resets. So the little center room is where it had to go.

The bases were designed to be CTF bases. Where the goal is now is where the flag was. I thought the bases added somewhat of a new twist as most BR maps that I have seen don't even have a base.

The alternate paths you want are actually there. The paths that go behind each base. Something I do like about this map and other big BR maps is the need to pass the ball. An aspect of BR that is missing in smaller maps. I think it is totally awsome to be running along one of the side ridges to pass the ball to a teammate on the center ridge. It just opens an entirely new type of stradegy.

Bifrost is still my fav BR map. This one is ok, for what it is. I actually converted Bifrost to a CTF map. That was a hoot! :bulb:

Colossus actually gave me the idea as it is both a CTF map and BR map. That is what made me start looking at both types and converting them. Lava Giant by far is a better CTF map than a BR map. It is still fun, and watching a bunch of bots go at it is a total kick.

this new version of LavaGiant that has been out for a while has a great skybox now with wild red/brown spores, green sprite lights, nebulae and the red/orange hues of lava fields in the distance and looks a lot better in UT2004 (not sure about the green sprite lights though); the lava fields look a lot better and I like all the variations; I like the new rocky paths, radio towers, blue crystals as well as the easier base layout. I like the weapon placement better, but I would still replace one of the rocket launchers with a flak cannon. I don’t think anything is too small or too narrow and this map has really opened up more in UT2004 (did you see some of the paths in the original UT version?). It would be nice to have at least one more entrance into the base, but then it might be too hard to defend and at least it is now easier to grab the flag in this version vs UT. I like the sounds and the music choice. The bots play this one well, so watch out. Yes, I agree this might be a bit large for BR and I did have trouble wondering which path to run down for the ball. All in all, it was still fun.
