looks alright, the 1st screen is giving me a red x.

2nd screen looks ok, could be a bit more light. Trim should be a different colour, matches the tiles too much in colour.

Looks alright though, most albatross maps are in the day, makes a different to see one at night.

        It's a little visually repetitive...

        That's about all I have...

Other than that... It makes me remind myself how much I suck at mapping.

nah mate it ain't that bad, don't knock yourself down.

Just next time give a little more light and vary some things, check out other maps using the same style and see how they have done things, like i said makes a change to see a map this style at night.

don't beat yourself up about it, it ain't bad at all

Lovely looking map, but you've really got to have a word or two with your marketing department.

Honestly, visuals came as an afterthought. I'm no longer mapping to try to visually impress anybody... that just doesn't matter to me anymore. Thats why I dropped DM-Mecheria. I was actually hoping more people would comment on gameplay rather than visuals, but hey... I guess around here visuals are the thing to do.

Actually lots of peope comment their first impression on the screens, and they try the map only after it. And after playing it they don't take the time to post the 'real' comments. :bored:

i havent had a chance to download this yet, but from the screenshots it looks very good. although i would suggest making some more light sources (not all the same tourch) and make the light radius bigger, the lights in the second shot have very small radius and it looks really weird and not realistic.

i haven't had time to download it yet mate, but as D-7 said most people including myself comment on screens only, which obivously you can only tell from visuals, i then download if i like it and give the author feedback on other things once i've had a bash at it.

I will download it tonight when i get home, but i probably won't give feedback straight away as i'm lazy and store them in my docs for ages, lol .

Your choice... and gameplay comes first, sure. I think the matter has been debated to DEATH now. But I'm still thinking that gameplay and eyecandy are not mutually exclusive (Achilles comes to mind immediately).
The fact is imo not trying to impress or being unique at any costs but being creative keeping gameplay in mind... look at how Rankin has set a new standard for the most overused theme in history! Mecheria was looking GREAT from shots... sadly no chance to judge on gameplay.

Only thing I'd change is the weapon/powerup spawn bases to the standard one because when I first played it I was confused as to what would be spawning where.

The gameplay for Mech was ok IMO but a little tight. You're right however, visually it was/is stunning.

I personally dont think screenies do not do any map justice or in some cases give it too much credit. Unless you actually play in the map to understand what kind of mood the mapper is trying to convey I think the screenies are a moot point. I think the lighting in Ages in perfect.
