    ONS-Ranger Final

    I am proud to announce that ONS-Ranger is finally finished! It has been in developement for two to three months. Hopefully the quality of the map reflects that large amount of time and effort spent on it. Please download it, play it, and have fun.

    Description:
    Engage in battle over the mountain tops, through the canyon, and in an underground fortress. ONS-Ranger, taking place in a mountainous forest area, will test your skills as an Onslaught player. Can you figure out the best ways to take over the nodes, getting through your enemies defenses, and destroying their power core? The level offers varied gameplay, each node being significantly different and interesting, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. It also has bot support to feed your offline fragging needs. I hope you enjoy playing this map as much as I enjoyed making it!

              Great map, Looks good and is fun to play!, top quality.... But (i kno i hate buts too)

              There are some serious slow downs when playing, the places i mainly saw them were;

              > Going up to the 2nd floor and top floor of the red base (I kno the bases switch each round now, so when i say red base i mean the red base on the first round, where the blue base is connected to the tower node on default layout)

              > The tower node attached to the blue base when you went into the tower where the node sits

              > I didn't check the blue base but i took it the top two floor of that base causes slowdowns aswell.

              Other than that it ran well through out the rest of the map and i really did enjoy playing it, Very nice! :up:

                Looks pretty awesome. Does the water have that special ripple effect when things go in and out of it? I love that.

                  fps dropped in too many places

                  Unfornuately this Gorgeous map ran way to slow on my system. FPS dropped for me in a number of places ... this is the only map I've had this problem with (as a final release) and I have just about all the currently released ONS maps that are worth playing. I ran a quick game of Dria and it ran smoothly. Sadly I deleted it from my HDD ... but it is a nice looking map and if you ever make a LE edition or fix the areas where it slows down I'l take another look. Peace.

                    This game ran too slow for me as well. I run most maps just fine but this one was not really playable on my system. Not just slow in spots, all over.
                    Too bad as the map looks really good.
                    Can some optimizing be done to the map to improve its performance?
                    I had to remove the map from my HDD as well. Too bad.

                        Good map, but as has been mentioned the performance is quite crippling, first I would get rid of those karma bridges, while a nice feature will probably be doing you no favours what-so-ever, just make them normal meshes.
                        Also from what I saw in wireframe (rmode 1) the fog didn't seem to be doing much culling wise, maybe try reducing it's distance, your water surfaces were a bit too detailed I think too, try reducing them, you can push a lot more polys then for the trade off while still looking fine.
                        Also are the anti-portals working? Or maybe more are needed, it just seemed in some areas I was seeing more than I should do really.

                        Anyway, I hope that helps, good map just hope you can get the performace level right.

                          this map looks awesome. the layout, design...almost everything. but its a major fps killer...and i dont have a slow system (3ghz ddr400 9700pro). i would love to play this map if you could optimize it a lot more. but, good job on the design!:up:

                            • Looks great!
                            • Cool layout. Almost multi-level, loads of routes to take.
                            Subject to improvement:
                            • FPS! I can put up with halved FPS for a pretty map, but not with quartered FPS. If this doesn't get fixed somehow, I doubt there is much point to this map.
                            • A map of this size and complexity could be home to more nodes. They don't all have to be enabled in the default setting, but a few more to toy with gives so much replayability to a map.
                            • The link setup is a race and a lottery. It is like RedPlanet and plays like RedPlanet, and that's not a good thing. I suggest linking the other corner nodes to the cores as well.

                              This map is visually stunning. It definately would be my favorite ONS map hands down if I didn't get 7 Fps running it...:cry:
