    DM-AkBal2k4

    Name: DM-AkBal2k4
    Version: v1.0
    Compatibility: UT2004
    Description:
This is a conversion of my last map DM-AkBal for UT2k3. I take a conversion as a way to get some training (DM-AkBal was released on 08/17/2003), but AkBal2k4 is a new map . I made the gameplay more interesting. In this way I increased the connectivity with new spots, new ways and some slide spots (not easy to use). Further I made the new version more beautiful - new lighting, new meshes and changed textures.

    Comments:
Not my map, just released and deserves a little pimpage, I like this map a lot

Seems to be a looker, but Filefront has a huge wait and the Geocities link is dead.
    Any mirrors?

I don't uderstand why the author made this map darker than the original. It was just enough dark to make a good atmosphere. And I miss the original meshes.

Does anybody know how to activate the trap above the DDamage?

Heart-pounded atmosphere, lighting and layout. I always familiar with cryptic textures, meshes, torches and floors. Also, like the bird chirping at night, few grasses, few vines, and a skybox. Some good spots can be useful to you, z-axis forwarding, fun gameplay, and the bots are good.

nice cryptic atmosphere and better flow than UT2003 version; better lighting/shadows, textures/meshes; I like the wood floors/ramps, torches, designs, trim, vines, chains, skulls(?), z-axis, sounds and music choice.

Could you guys please stop doing this? I mean it's nice that you sum up the quality and post download links, but many threads here already contain a download link and haven't been touched in ages.
Additionally you are pushing out the new content from the first forum page. Thank you very much.

many threads here contain download links that don't work anymore, besides right now I'm just commenting on some maps that Tux has already bumped.

EDIT: so as to not bump this thread, I disagree. There are a lot of maps that have old links that don't work, so I'm updating the links as well as posting my comments on some of these. Everyone wants instant gratification these days, well, guess what, you have to look to find good maps! Look on the bright side..........there's only a finite quantity of UT2004 maps.

EDIT AGAIN: Actually, yes, I bumped it only 2 weeks after so where's the necromancer in that? Your point is lost in that respect. Also, I did not only post other links, but also my review of the map (sorry if you didn't think it was to your standards). Besides, you just bumped the thread again by your additional comments instead of editing your other post (seriously?); sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. I'm sorry your precious release got bumped to the second page; why don't you just bump the thread yourself and quit whining! If that's the way everyone feels about it, then take away my "I helped the community!" tag. Not only am I bringing activity to a section of the Epic forums that needs it, but I'm also posting working links. If people do actually only look at the first page, then it's their loss.

Also, to leilei2, bump your thread if you want it noticed. People go to the last page of an old thread that gets bumped to see what else is new or going on; if you go to the first page of an old thread expecting something new, then you're an idiot. It's beneficial for people who forgot about an old file with no working links and all of a sudden there they are. Also, Epic is the only place right now to find links for old UT2004 maps and good review of them; yes, you have to search but no one can have everything.

Seriously people, if everyone is so concerned about me bumping old threads and posting new working links as well as my review of the old maps, then let's take a poll and let me know where it is posted instead of continuing to bump this old thread, which is against your argument. If most people agree in the poll after a week or two that I should stop doing this, then I'll stop and keep all my working links and comments to myself (or at least not in this forum) and you can delete the "I Helped the Community!" tag from my avatar; if most people agree that I am helping the community, then I'll continue as is. How's that?

SOLUTION - First, so as to not keep bumping this thread, anyone that has already commented, please just edit your last post here. Second, (jefe has a good idea) how about we only bump old threads if all the links are dead. The rest of the reviews can be put into a thread in the general chat section and I'll start one for mine and maybe Tux can start a separate one for his or just tag onto my thread, whatever. Don't mean to be so defensive but I've been doing this for a while and no one has said anything until now. I'll start this sometime today and do the same in the UT3 section.

Ron Paul 2012, how many people will actually go through the trouble to do that; most don't even do a google search.

Agreed. It buries the new releases that I wasn't aware of until I turned back a few forum pages skimming past bumped 2004 threads. This doesn't keep the community more alive; it's annoying, and discourages new releases. I doubt it even HELPS others find maps, since no one new looks on epic forums first for old maps as it's a very disorganized place for serving as a map database, which is where dedicated map sites come in to serve the purpose.

Also, I hope for not having to wait 7 years for feedback. I still haven't received useful feedback on my model especially after one of the prominent necromancers procrastinated about "checking it out". Instead, 5 2004 maps get priority for feedback. "but a mirror link!" Who goes to the last page of an old thread on a forum looking for a file? It's not really beneficial.

Actually you bumped it over two weeks after Tux bumped it. And all you added was a useless list of mirrors, because the link in the original post works just fine. In other words, you bumped it above newer releases again.
And FYI: People look for links in the first post of a final release. If that one works, nobody bothers to scroll down or even go to next pages, except to post feedback.

I posted a release in this subforum, hoping to gain attention and get feedback. But thanks to your continuous thread necromancy, my thread already dropped to the second page within a few days. I wouldn't mind if the new threads were active discussions or new releases, but they aren't. Many probably don't even have broken download links to justify a necro bump.

agree with Wormbo, you guys posting updated links to stuff is great but you dont have to do it to everything. Just make a master list of the most common sites where updated links are and have Flak sticky it. That way updated links wont clutter up the release section(s) and bury anything new..

a map I released 2 weeks ago is already pushed on to page 3 making it harder for me to get any feedback on.

I think you two should start a thread in the general chat section for your reviews. People will be able to find all of your reviews and recommendations in one place. Additionally, you could cross post them to a blog.

I like that you guys are reviewing the old maps, and I almost always read your reviews. But I agree that it has become very difficult to keep track of new releases.

I think you guys should bump the old threads only if the original links are dead, or to point out a newer version or update to release that isn't mentioned in the thread.
