    DM-SilentHell

The original release thread got lost rather quickly in the flood of beta and wip threads, and since there are now seperate forums for final releases and betas ( woohoo! ) I thought I would re-post this one here. If you want to see my other two maps and my mutator that got lost in the shuffle you can check the links in my sig.

I wasn't sure if the admins would want people re-posting maps into the appropriate forum, so if you (admins) want to delete this thread or the original that's now in the betas forum, go right ahead

Now that all that's been said, here's the original release post reformatted as indicated by the forum rules.

    *****

    Name: DM-SilentHell

    Version: 1.0 FINAL

    Compatibility: UT2004

    Description:
Tournament officials were invited to the town of Silent Hill by an anonymous contact to negotiate terms for opening a new arena. After several weeks passed without word from those officials, a team was sent to find them. And they did find the missing officials... hanging from chains and twitching spasmodically in a twisted underground nightmare. The location was accepted as an arena, but even the most hardened gladiators shiver at the thought of fighting in Silent Hell.

    Comments:
This is my third map for UT2K4. The visual style of the map is inspired by the survival horror video game series Silent Hill. The map is intended for 6 to 12 player deathmatch games, but should suit any of the DM compatible game types just fine.

This map includes some custom content from the community, including a projective texture by |UED|ValHallen and a static mesh from Coyle. The map also features an excellent remix of the Silent Hill song "True" by Steve Pordon of Overclocked ReMix. I owe Steve a big thanks for remastering the track in ogg format just for my map.

The map also uses the KarmaOnline package written by the LawDogs mod team and packaged for use in my map by Joe90. KarmaOnline allowed me to use some interesting KActors in my map without them breaking in online play.

See the included readme for more information about how the map came to be and about the many people who helped me make it happen.

Note: for some reason my screenshots always turn out brighter than the actual game. The overall lighting scheme is darker than you see here.

    Credits:
    Rehevkor: mapping, partial mutator code
Steve Pordon: custom song "True (itsgonenowmix)"
    |UED|ValHallen: custom texture
    Coyle: custom static mesh
    Kalias: beta testing
War-Lord: base code for mutator, assistance with coding
    Joe90: more coding help

I got it, but when I tried to open it a window popped up asking what program I wanted to use to open it. Select from the web or choose your own.
    Which is it?

Robert: You need to download a program called WinRAR to extract the archive. Inside the archive are three folders: Maps, Music, and System. Simply extract these folders to your /UT2004 folder.

We need a sticky thread explaining the rar format on this forum and in the betas forum. Lots of people apparently don't know anything about it.

          Thanks Xe3eX

A general purpose, free piece of software which allows you to handle RAR files is IZArc. It supports so many different compression file types, that it's a real Swiss Army Knife when it comes to downloading files from the internet.

            Grab it here

I finally got around to playing this map just now, and I just wanted to say, it's great.
The lighting is great, very moody.
I can't wait to see more maps from you.

I have extracted them there, but the map doesn't even show up as a death match option.

Thanks! I'm currently working on a map for the Alien Swarm mod, so the moody, atmospheric lighting will be put to good use

The only post icons available since the forum change are smilies. Apparently they've done away with that system or it hasn't been re-implemented yet.
