    DM-Contrived

    Description:
Situated in the middle of a barren, blizzard ravaged landscape, there stands a brand new facility. Designed to be shielded from the harsh environment, this structure was built with only one purpose in mind; to serve as a tournament venue.

Medium sized map suitable for 2-8 players with Z-Axis opportunities. Clean BSP style with very few static meshes.

I have seen this one before, I think. I'll download it anyway. Must have been a beta.

          Link correction

ChookWoods: Your Mapraider link is to the unapproved submission... the correct link is:

          http://www.mapraider.com/maps/?fileid=4115

Our three mirrors (one of which is high-speed, direct download, no registration required) are also available from that page in addition to the other two you've mentioned.

Map looks really cool, btw. Can't wait to check it out.

I really like this map. Few (and I mean FEW) maps that are released on here actually draw my attention, but this one did. To start, I love the clean style, and the bold lighting. Reminds me of Quake 3 (which had one of the best, if not THE best, visual map styles IMHO)

Only things I'm not too keen on are the silence (the map has no music and no significant ambient sound, so it's really, really quiet), and the multi-color lighting. I love the bright orange lights, but the blue and red ones, IMO, don't fit into the map's color palette, and therefor look kind of strange and out of place. You could think of them as almost being circus-like in their application - it's that kind of thought. I think the map's colors are easily orange and white for the most part, so other lighting colors - unless simply done right, in a way that feels natural - won't fit in so seamlessly.

Still, a real breath of fresh air. I'm really tired of all the static-mesh-factories that people release, when there's so much to be said for simple, aesthetic beauty, like in this map.

Edit: whoever it was who voted this thread less than 3 stars needs to be spanked.

thanks for the criticism... to begin with i thought maybe i had too much colour variance in the map and tried to reduce it a little, but i guess with the amount of time i spent on the map i just became acoustomed to it so it didnt stand out as obviously as it will to other people.
as far as sound goes, i tried to add in some ambience, such as the occasional thunder strikes, and the quiet whispering of the wind etc, but didnt want to over do it which could hamper gameplay by obscuring the audio cues. as for music though, i just simply forgot.
i guess some of these things would have been ironed out some more with further beta testing, but it was pretty non existant maybe due to ut3 demos release. thankfully though they are not specifically gameplay issues, which is the main thing.

This would make a very nice UT3 level ... after playing the demo I am pretty much hooked on the new graphics and I deleted UT2K4 or else I would check this out now but definitely consider porting this over because I think the layout looks great from the pics and this is one level I would like to get a crack at. Hope to see you making a lot of UT3 levels ... you have a good clean style.

having no music is not a bad thing - most players turn it off anyways. All in all, a nice playable map.

                          nice clean map

simple, interesting, fun, all the elements; good textures, lighting/shadows, gameplay, and layout; needs more ambient sounds and music.

                            A good touch.

Great lighting, textures, layout, BSP, and trims. Includes the red/blue-styled walls, trims and lights (not on this CTF map), and the beautiful skybox made by Hazel.H in which I like it. Great gameplay and the bots are decent. But still, no background music was placed and the sounds look fine.
