    Not really a tremendous echo yet

    Well, I have the impression that may be due to the fact that in the list of threads the thread has not changed its title. It still says "DM-ADVMAN-02-alpha4 [Pics] [Alpha] [Updated]". Funny. I have edited the first post and changed the subject to "DM-Noxious-Fumes [Pics] [Beta] [Updated]", just as I must have done before, because we have not begun with alpha4, have we? It did only change the subject of the post itsef, not the thread title. Is this again some stupidity of mine?

    Can anybody help me or do I have to open a new thread? I'd really like to get some more feedback before releasing a final

      If your original topic was way back on the list (like this one was), then it's ok to make a new one. It also cleans out comments that no longer apply to the map in its present state.

      Too late for that now though. Wierd that you can't change the title.

        Yeah, seems to me like a bug. Anyway, I obviously got the attention of at least three people now

        Basically the only thing I want to know is, if there is a severe bug left. The one RichyB found is an example, mis-alignment of textures would be another, not to speak of BSP holes (knocking on wood). As soon as I get the impression that nothing like that is left, I release the map.

        For big redesigns it is too late anyway. The map was considered playable and basically OK at the end of the Alpha cycle, thus I think it will still appeal to some people, and the looks are quite as I want them to be. So, for all practical reasons this map is done and it's time to move on.

          I really enjoyed this map even as an alpha, and its even better now! The theme is fresh and very cool with the graffiti. The jumppads are awesome! The only thing that I saw wrong was that corpses fall through all the metal walkways. Obviously that doesn't effect gameplay, so its not a big deal to me, anyways.

          Good job and I'm looking forward to the final!! :up:

            Yeah, I know. I forgot that. Should be no big deal. I had the same problem with stairways in DM-Sweet-Death, and there I have fixed it by changing some collision property, I think.

              Funny. Very funny. UseSimpleKarmaCollision=FALSE" does the trick, but only for horizontal surfaces, not for the ramps. I'll have to wrangle around with blocking volumes, I guess

                Done. For the ramps I had to use blocking volumes, but now it's all fixed. You should not karma-fall through any meshes any more.

                  First of all, I'm pretty sure I'm not exactly the intended type of audiance this map was catered to, and since I can't really find anything wrong with gameplay or flow, I'll largely be skipping that part. That, and I can tell you've done a **** good job with this, and I even love how you went about it; started with the gameplay first instead of the theme, and built upon it methodically untill completion. If for no other reason, I still gotta congradulate you on sticking to this for so long, and I think the gameplay's quite well done.


                  What I will talk about basically boils down to my personal preference, so don't take what I'm about to say too seriously.


                  The music you have chosen for this map... ouch. And by that, I mean does not suit the map's theme, whatsover, period. I do pick up on the sort of surreal chemical/industrial theme you've got going on (and pulled off quite well, with the possible exception that the skins on some of the pipes seem a bit out of place), and think a sort of ambient music would fit this level, but not the particular song you've chosen. ^^;


                  To be honest, this is the only time I've ever complained about having music in a map. ^^;

                    Funny, but such are tastes I really feel this strange music matches the strange visuals.

                    Most people actually congratulated me to the choice of music. Other things were debated, but music was out of the question - till now.

                    Well, I don't mind at all, and I hope you won't mind as well that I'll go by my own taste as long as the majority agrees.

                    Anyway: there is news on this map. It got released as final about 48 hours ago, and immediately people began picking at two blocking volume issues. I really had hoped to get these things reported in Beta, but such is life. As a consequence I will release a bugfix version, hopefully no later than next weekend.

                    If you care, there is a discussion going on in the full release announcement thread and I'd be glad to see you join.

                      And I wrote my above comment with two things in mind: first and foremost, it's your friggin' map, your calls, not mine. Seccond, I really didn't think my voice would matter versius that of an entire collective of people. :3 Didn't want you to think I was slandering you or your choice of music, of course.

                        No problem. All voices matter, but this is a semi-democratic process. Everybody counts, I do the most, because there is probably noone who has to spend more time with this map than I do, and I don't even have the choice
