    Dojo Tales: Japanese Legacy.

    Hey Peeps!.
Me and a few others have just started on a new mod. Shaolin Tales is only a working title at the moment and is likely to change.

    Here is background:
Set in Feudal Japan there are 4 Diamyo Famalies at war for conquest and ownership of Kyoto and Osaka, 2 major districts in Japan. The player can choose a clan to be with and take on the role of either Samurai/Ronin/Ninja or Assasin and be involved in missions such as Sabotage and Assasination.
The Mod will involve close quarters combat and Stealth and missions will take place in Temples/Towns/Forests/Harbours and Pagoda's.

It Will be a SinglePlayer game with a possible Multiplayer depending on how well it progresses and will also be a third person perspective.

We will have a Website up and running soon and are currently looking for a highly aimed team of Mappers, coders, artists and more to create a mod that will be for the public and for Game Developers to take note of our skills.

So if u are interested then either reply to this thread or email me at jay.harrison@ntlworld.com

    Thanx.

Hmm sounds interesting but this is a horrible way to start a mod honestly.

    Tweak's mod Dev tips
    =====

1.) Get a site up and running with a working .plan for your alphas and such.

2.)Get written DOC of what experience is needed in the fields that need to be covered.

3.) Get some media and then hit the public with the news.

These are just some of the many that makes the start of a mod very well.

Another tip: Do some research and change the name.
Shaolin is a Chinese martial art/religion/philosophy, not
Japanese. Also, if you play a Ronin and "join a clan" as you say, your not really a Ronin anymore, are you? Lastly, what time period are we talking here? Pre- or Post- Tokugawa (Edo period)?
Do you plan on being historically accurate or is this a fantasy mod?

I would love to help out this MOD as a level designer\story writer\researcher. One interesting fact I thought you might like to know was that the ninja were actually a group of peasant assasins and were very wimpy. They would kill people in cowardly ways like poisoning wells and putting snakes in the beds of their victims. Who would want to do that... sounds boring to me.

Also, making a free form MOD like this might be a bit hard. But I really like the idea of being able to join clans. It would be very cool to have to train in your "dojo" to improve in your style of martial arts! I myself take Koshin\Shotokan karate, the most brutal and physically intense form of martial arts ever to be created. It takes the best of every great style and melds it into a perfect fighting style. I know all about it as well as others.

Oh jeez... you just got my creativity flowing here! This TC is going to be the bomb (i cant say sh!$ on the forums ) if I have anything to do with it. It would be awesome to have weapons such as staffs and swords which you have to master (if you want). Nunchucks (or ejubongs) were a Korean invention so it wouldn't make sense to include them.

Good thing it's temporarily named cuz Shaolin is Chinese and it's a Japanese culture based game.

I would love to see this mod come to life. With what you are talking, it is sounding like Tenchu, but so much more so. Sadly, I am only a beginning mapper. I have given some thought as to doing a DM map in this style for some time, and went as far to come up with some concept drawings for the SM's that I would need to build (bamboo, bonsai, some stone and paper lanterns, mats, so-on and so-forth), but putting ideas to paper is one thing. Getting it to work is the hard part. I would love to help, but as I said, my skill level needs alot of work. I wish you great luck though. Get a web site up, and I will be sure to look at it.
                        Again, good luck

I wants to be all cowardly and sneakly like a ninja...don't drink that water!
Sounds like a cool mod if you get into all the details. A cool martial arts atmosphere in this engine would look great, and I may be wrong but I don't think it's been done with UT2003 yet.
