[MSUC Phase 2 Entry] MapEval: Map Evaluation Mutator

    MapEval: Map Evalution Mutator

This is a mutator which allows you to record your own personal evaluation of downloaded maps. This isn't a Map voting mutator like UT2Vote, but a mutator which allows you go through all the maps that you've downloaded and record your evaluation for each map.

If, like me, you download lots of custom maps, either for offline use or for running a server, or you evaluate maps for websites, magazines or contests, then you may find this mutator useful for keeping track of your opinion of these maps.

I thought of creating this mutator after having too many pieces of paper lying around (cluttering up my desk), containing names of downloaded maps I like or dislike. I decided it would be better (and quicker) to record what I think of the maps from within UT2003 instead.

You can use this mutator to store in a file lists of maps with different evaluations - i.e. Ownage, Good, Bad, etc.

If you review maps for a website or magazine, you can select the "Advanced" evaluation mode where you can use sliders to give a score (based on a scale between 1 and 100) against different categories - e.g. Gameplay, Graphics, Item and Weapon Placement etc.

The captions or names of the evaluation categories in each mode - Standard and Advanced - and the description for both lists are customisable allowing you to create different files with alternate evaluation lists. The ability to have up to 10 different categories in each mode gives you the flexibility when evaluating.

I have played maps and rated them. I just can't find where I can launch the maps that I have rated while seeing the ratings.

You click on "Map Manager" on the Evaluation Menu (shown in the first and second pictures) whilst in a game. You can then copy the map names from the evaluation lists to the Playlist, which is used by Instant Action or Multiplayer.

In a future version I will have the ability to get to the Map lists without having to start a game, but unfortunately I ran out of time for the contest to implement that feature - sorry about that.

          Looks great!

Is there any way this could be adapted to a MutEval for rating mutators? It could pull up a list of mutators currently running and allow you to rate them. Would be extremely useful for me

That's a good idea. In the back of my mind I have been wondering about this but wasn't sure the best way to implement it. Your suggestion about a list seems like a good way to do it. I'll put that on my list of future enhancements - but I'm not sure when it will be implemented.

OK another question, How do I get to the first or second screen without ending a match? I would like to start UT2003, get to the third screen, select my maps, and frag away. Can I do this without first playing a match? I would think that this is very important.
Great job with this. UT really needs this.

If you go into "Settings | Controls" within UT2003 you will notice that you can bind a key to a number of features that MapEval supports including the "Main Menu" which is the first screen, or "Alternate Menu" which is the 2nd screen. They are named that way so that if you select "Advanced Evaluation" as the default, the screens swap around (IYSWIM). This is explained within Help\MapEval.txt and Help\MapEval.htm.

Not with this version unfortunately. Time was not really on my side

AWSOME TOOL! this is a definate "Must Have" for people like me that run websites. I think this would just be a useful tool (as stated by the author) for anyone who downloads a ton of custom maps.

I have mirrored this file to my site to help (Hope nobody minds, )

I have uploaded both the UMOD and .zip versons to UT2003HQ!

Hope this helps get some people to download this great tool!
