    UT2004|CTF|

    Description:
No description yet. Probably it's gonna be 4vs4 CTF.

    Comments:
Work In Progress, so things could be changed until it's final.

    Screenshot:

Red-base. Blue base not finished yet.

The map-name could give you a hint. Those rounded tree stumps are gonna be jumppads.

Both teams crossing each other here at the main island.

Man, those are some pretty good pictures you have there. I can't wait to try it once you provide a d/l link.

Yeah, it actually looks pretty sweet so far. I like how the tree stumps add a level of sudden realism to the whole thing...makes you look at the rest of the work again.

looks pretty cool...can't wait to give it a shot

also watch out on your shadows...they look too black I think...I'd add a tad more of zonelight

Tree stumps == realism? I always thought they meant lumberjacks...

Anyway, I can't say anything about the lighting since my moniter's gamma is borked :bulb: but I have to say it looks nice. In the red base, though, doesn't that seem like a tad many jumppads? And I suggest you make some tree stumps real jumppads, and others as decoration. Give an emitter effect for the real jumppads to distinguish between the two. And remember to place tree stumps where trees used to be, not on a building for instance.

              Do you call them ''lumberjacks''?

And it's very WIP so i have to do alot of work before it's finished. I just want you guys to give a little ''preview''.

The overall layout of the map isn't done yet. The red-base is isn't finished, the blue-base has to be build, the other small islands has to be build. In fact almost everything, but i thought the red-base was ready enough to post some screens of it.

I would change your color sliders in terragen. This sky looks very weird to me.

Weird? I found the skybox on the internet and i thought it fit's perfectly. It creates a autumn-atmosphere.

But maybe you are right. I will look at it later.

Sun looks good:up: , but skybox looks a bit weird having a dark cloud with looks filled with gases etc with a large massive sun which usually fits in with a clear sky etc.

To go with the skybox, the lighting needs to be tweaked more, terrain doesn't look like the sunlight/sky is shedding any light on it.

The tree stumps are cool, i know it won't look realistic but you should but some kinda emitter on them so people know there jump pads and not meshs. To keep in the theme do a sorta faded falling leaf emitter.

Also the map reminds me of some kinda army base with those look out towers, if your going for something like that add sandbags as well, with like a steel base behind them.

                    hope my feedback helps.

You can create those skies yourself with terragen, it's really easy and it took me about 30 minutes without any tutorial to find out how the program works. Do a google search on terragen and you should find it.

lumberjacks=the lorax, but anyway...it's just one of those things, I guess...you don't see a lot of treestumps in UT as far as I can remember.
Maybe a sawdust emitter, or you could put a blast decal on them and have them emit a smoldering smoke effect so you're, like, being punted by the hot coals of the smoldering stump...or...something.
I guess it could look as much like an army base as it does like a terrorist training camp with those lookout towers, couldn't it?

Honestly, I'd change nothing. The simple looks and the ominous skybox, the slate lighting... it makes things very surreal. I've seen enough realistic maps, this one pulls off a look that can be subliminally unnerving if you decided to pursue that direction.

EDIT: If you DO want to do things that way, try this: Add a good deal of shadowing to the forested areas that are harder to get to, but leave the rest as is. Add some wind noise as AmbientSounds. Try to create an atmosphere that keeps the player off-guard, even though all logic says it shouldn't.
