Compatibility: UT2004 - Some custom textures - embedded in /mylevel
Description: Poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge - Kubla Khan. A medium DM map 4-8 players
Comments: This is really just a preview... Two zipped .wmv files available. Highspeed (640x480 and 5.44 MB zipped up.) and Lowspeed (320x240 2.24MB zipped up) After unzipping, double-click on the unzipped file to play. Open in Windows Media Player.
Any critiques based on what you see would be appreciated. I do need to work on the skybox a little more...
Release ETA: about 2 weeks. I'm going on vacation soon so no mapping while on the road.
Please do comment - I always appreciate a fresh point of view.

looks sweet...though in that last pic I would smooth out the terrain more and replace that sand texture...looks kinda blocky on this monitor (I'm at school but using 19" dell ultrasharp lcds)

Yeah - I futzed with the terrain there right before zipping and uploading. *Sigh*. I missed it completely.

          It fixed now though...

Let's see if it fits Coleridge's description. Downloading now. (By the way, you spelled Kubla wrong in the description.)

            In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
            A stately pleasure dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
            Through caverns measureless to man
            Down to a sunless sea.

So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round:
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
            Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
            Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

But Oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover!
A savage place! as holy as enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A might fountain momently was forced:
            Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail:
And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.

Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean:
And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
            Ancestral voices prophesying war!
The shadow of the dome of pleasure
            Floated midway on the waves;
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice!

            A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw:
            It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
            Singing of Mount Abora.
            Could I revive within me
            Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me,
That with music loud and long,
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome! those caves of ice!

And all who heard would see them there,
And all who should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.

Ah! Someone did research! Of course it would be you, Virax. Thank you.
And some people spell Kubla as Kublai. Dunno why...

This is a very early build, so please be gentle! (Yet thorough), hehehe.

And I still need to build the caves of ice...

Nah, no research. I had to memorize the poem last year in Honors English III. Hell, the only reason I clicked on the thread was because I recognized the name. I'm glad that I did, though. ;D

Anyhow, I should have feedback for you soon.

Yet another awesome map from my man
                  ArcadiaVincen!!

You know I have to check this baby out even though I am busy as hell.

Man I have to keep up with your amazing growth. Looks really nice ... we'll see how it plays. Thanks man.

Edited: Okay so I just got done playing it and visually it is a really great map ... man I can really see a definite unique style you are developing ... much like a painter. Man it is really beautiful but right now it does seem pretty fps intensive ... I could tell it ran just a bit slower than some ONS maps I have even though for me it ran pretty smoothly at 1280x960 HS settings 2xAA 4XAF on an AMD64 3200/6800 GT/2 GB DDR-II RAM ... but I can still see it needs optimization in both the frameretes and the bot AI. And I did find myself getting stuck along that rocky hill where the health vials are. You did mention these issues but you did say wanted real world feedback. Still I love it and look forward to the next beta. Man I can't wait until this hits the RC level!!!!

There you are! Thanks for checking it out...
Yeha, I'm going to be tweaking the rocky hill and optimizing more.
The flickering candles really take the fps down quite a bit. I'm going to be removing a good portion of them.
Thanks for the feedback - as always, honest and fair.
                    Thank you!
