    Random Monster Change [beta 2] (change size, health, speed, points)

    Name: Random Monster Change
    Version: beta 2
    Compatibility: UT2004 patch 3236 (maybe others)
    Description: This mutator will allow random changes to monster Size, Health, Ground Speed, Air Speed, Water Speed, and Scoring value (which is for RPG, it currently won't affect adrenaline).

    Comments: It should work with InvasionEverywhere, FHI, UE4, standard Invasion, or any game type that has monster based creatures. There is now an in-game interface for the ini settings.

    Screenshot: N/A (you gotta play to see the monsters change)
    Credits: Satore, most of my ideas came from his mutator, also I used his code as a guide for how to make these type of changes. Me.
    Homepage: N/A
    Download: RandomMonsterChangeb2 Download

    I am looking for beta testing feedback, does it work with all game types (as much as I like invasion I don't have invasion everywhere). Are there features that I should have that I have overlooked. Does it work...

    Beta 2: Added in-game configuration menu for the mutator, which also automatically creates the INI file (so it is no longer in the zip).

    It worked for me. :up:

    Apart from the original UT2004 mutators I have many more installed, listed as used with Random Monster Change;

    Low Grav
    Quad Jump
    Monster Config Dump
    satoreMonsterPack1.12
    U4E Monsters in Invasion
    UT2004RPG
    WoRM Weapon Replacer

    The changes in the monsters was immediately apparent, and yes very random regarding size and health. On one occasion the wave refused to finish even with no monsters present (ghosted the map). I am not sure if it was that or maybe the U4E mutator. Will keep trying different combos.

    Later, keep up the good work. :up:

      Thanks for the feedback.

      One thing I am particularly worried about is how understandable the readme file is. Trying to describe all of the possible changes inside the ini file was a bit cumbersome and I am not sure how good of a job I did.

      Ducatisto, you did a nice job on clarifying the U4EMonsters In Invasion process. Would you mind looking over the readme and let me know if it make sense.

      Also, how important would it be to have an in-game configuration screen for the mutator? Do you think that people will want to play with the settings or once they are set never touch them?

          If you are using the default ini settings there is a 50% chance that any monster will be a different size, and then there is random chance that the monster will be anywhere from 50% to 200% its normal size (half to double). And this is all during the same game, it doesn't change per wave it changes each time a monster is spawned.

          However, if you edit the ini file you can change all of that, you can make it so that the monsters have a 100% chance of being changed...

          here is the default:
          ChangeSize=(AllowChange=True,ChangeProbability=0.5 0,MinFct=0.5,MaxFct=2.0,MinNA=30,MaxNA=120,MinAddP ts=1,MaxAddPts=-1)

          here is one that makes them change size all the time:
          ChangeSize=(AllowChange=True,ChangeProbability=1.00,MinFct=0.5,MaxFct=2.0,MinNA=30,MaxNA=120,MinAddPt s=1,MaxAddPts=-1)

          You can also change MinFct to make them even smaller or MaxFct to make them even bigger.

          You can make the same type of changes to Health (makes them harder or easier to kill) or Speed (Ground, Air or Water).

          I think I am going to work on an in-game Config Menu for the mutator.

            Thanks for the :up:

            The readme is fine and reads well but due to the complexity of it, that is if you want to tweak the settings I suggest you go ahead and create an ingame interface (similar to satores) to enable players to tweak away without getting their hands dirty with the ini file.

            Carry on the good work

              I have updated to beta2.

              The only difference is now there is an in-game Configuration menu. My first menu *woot*, learning new stuff everyday!

              Something new to test, but it makes personal adjustments WAY easier (as long as its clear what the options actually do).

              enjoy...

                  Yet to check in game but 2 things first.

                  Please update the original post and link to reflect changes and also put in the revision changes within the readme too as it will help others see how it has evolved.

                    Fine :up:

                    All seems to be obvious enough but you must make it a must for all downloaders (when it is ready for upload) to read the readme before attempting to use the GUI as we all know many go straight in with both feet

                    All it needs is an online test now

                      Thanks for the feedback. I have updated the original post as well as the readme with the latest info and version history. When I post this as a full release I will stress in large bold letters view the readme first. Seems like that is as "mandatory" as I can make it.

                      I will be trying my own online test tomorrow morning (when I have access to a remote machine).

                      I also have some friends at the ODC clan who host an amazing invasion server who are going to play with it. If it works OK for them they will certainly give it a shot on a test server.

                      The only thing I have found in my own extensive testing is that my default for the Health may be a bit high. I used to cruise through my own custom levels, and now I am getting beat routinely on wave 3.:haha: I may calm it down to a max of 5x instead of 10x.

                        Great stuff and how's about sharing info on this ODC server, or is it private

                        As for default it is not far off as you do need a point where it starts to become challenging for all apart from well seasoned players, how about meeting half way, 7 or 8%? :up:

                          No they are not private the ODC has a couple of public games going, and one of them is a very well run and well configured RPG Invasion. In fact they are the ones that turned me into the invasion-head I am today.

                          ODClan.org has a link to their servers, and much more.

                          Maybe I won't change the default from 10, its adjustable anyway. And it's probably better to start hard and adjust down if necessary.

                          I have also decided that I am going to extend the functionality of the mutator (I may even change its name).
                          - Add the ability to ignore specified monsters (no random changes).
                          - Add the ability to make specific changes to specific monsters, I realize this is already handled in other mutators, but it seems like a natural place to implement it.
