    [WIP] DM-PB-Asylum (Quake Live map)

Hi, I'll leave you some screenshots of this map in which I'm working . . .

I still have much work to do, smooth some surfaces, model some statics, set some emitters, etc . . .

Almost all textures are default ones with more contrast and saturation, I like it colorful . . .

    Hope you like it ! . . .

It's an Alpha, download it at your risk . . .

    No, no, no.

Looks like you did a good job on the level, but those colors looks awful to me.

EDIT: It's wasteful because you're having to duplicate all those default files, and much the same effect can be achieved through lighting and texture modifiers. Also, when posting in this forum you need to follow the format and have a download available.

Agreed. The textures/lighting here could be dramatically improved. There isn't much contrast, and the details are being blown out by the brightness.

Also ... Since when has UT2004 been accused of not being colorful? Pretty sure that was a criticism levied at UT3, not UT2004.

In fact, there is no lightning, I put some for viewing purposes . . .

        :P

Well, seems that I need to change the textures, nobody likes it . . .

I figured you were just using WIP lighting, but I'm still not sold on these blown out textures.

              What's the problem ?, the pattern ?, the hue ? . . .

I made those textures marked more brownish, don't know if is what you mean . . .

(In the third arrow, is the wall not the edge)

I'll try to do what you say when done but for now I'm trying to keep it simple, disk space is cheap nowadays . . .

It just doesn't look good to raise saturation like that. It gives a very blotchy, uneven appearance, and walls work best if they are neutral or solid colors. This is because it is easier to make out your opponent, and to be honest, those walls are just plain hard to look at period.

There isn't anything wrong with making a colorful level; I've done it myself. (You may use those textures if you wish, but they don't work with your current theme.) It would look better if you put more work into editing the textures, or find something that is appropriately colorful for you. Colors can also be added by the use of lighting and decoration, so don't feel that the walls themselves have to be super bright.

Regarding disk space, well it isn't so much that HDDs are cheap as it is that it will take a longer time to dowload from redirects and sites. It just plain sucks to wait a long time to download a level when all someone did is spend 5 seconds changing the saturation and brightness sliders in photoshop on a bunch of stock textures.
