I have no clue how you could set them in the static mesh browser but you can do it manually:
Select the static mesh of the collision and add it to the map. Disable bshadowcast (properties -in display) and disable bacceptprojector.
Then you can set it to Advanced->HiddenInGame
Weird. And that's just with a normal static mesh? And it works as collision? I don't think you mentioned anything about changing collision values or whatever. Are you sure that's it? That would be really convinient!
Ah right! If you created an own collision static mesh be sure you set the collision to exact karma collision (not a k-dot collision or however it is called. SMB->below the SM 3Dpreview window there is this bar, there you'll find such an option).
