    Defence Alliance 2 [BETA 1.0] (ver. 1.1 early Jan.) *UPDATED 01-16-06*

    Hey all,

    I talked to the team and they said it was ok for me to post this in here.

    The Defence Alliance team (DA-team for short) released their beta 1.0.0. back in October and are preparing to release the first update (ver. 1.1) bringing many excellent gameplay balances and improvements to the table. You should come on over and check out the things they are doing and post ideas and feedback at their official forums found here...

    I can't recommend this mod enough to everyone out there. It is a load of fun, especially at LAN parties. The amount of professionalism found in this mod is downright astounding. Calling it beta seems kind of out of place and insulting. Either way you can download the "beta" here...

    Additional version updates will be posted in this thread.

    Version 1.1 tentative release: January or WID.

    1.1 patch update:
    Here are some of the changes already implemented.
    • Increased Traced distance for Turret and player Information
    • Medics receive score for healing players
    • Mechanics receive score for building or repairing objects
    • Score award/reduction is now shown on HUD
    • Gametime shows on HUD
    • Numbers have been placed into the GUI choose class/build structure
    • Supported fire HUD indicator (when you are next to sandbags etc you get better accuracy, already happens in beta 1.0)
    • Idle turrets (turrets that do not shoot or found an enemy for sometime) will be
      automatically destroyed after sometime , explosion effects are shown but not real damage is caused.
    • Scoreboard does not show up anymore after you are dead
    • Attackers do spawn much quicker now, defenders even slower but we are balancing this further more

      The first link? The second link? The mod? Be more specific. Either way I know the mod works since I've been playing it since November as have many others. Check out their bugs forum to see if someone else has had the same problem. It can be found here...

          Post over in their forums about it, its part of BU so if you already have a BU user (you should do :P) you can post straight away.

            Well perhaps use one of the links I already provided to get help on the issue. That'd be a start. And I would copy and paste the contents of the error message into your post so the devs can help troubleshoot it. Simply saying it doesn't work won't help them any.

            Most cases it's a bad install of the mod or of UT2k4. If you use mods a lot, files can become corrupted and you may have to reinstall parts or the whole thing. ALSO, make sure you have the latest UT2k4 patch found at...

              The following image shows off the new AVeR (AntiVehicle Rocket) rocket turret used primarily to take out other turrets (and later on vehicles when they add those.)
              The AI on this turret will automatically target other turrets and vehicles as a higher priority before engaging enemy troops.

                  Do you have the latest patch and the Mega Pack Epic just released? That should contain all the textures needed to run the mod just fine.

                  Go to www.unrealtournament.com and DL (download) both and install them. AFAIK (As far as I know) that is all that is needed to run it besides the actual mod itself.

                  EDIT: Actually the Mega Pack contains the patch already. So you only need to DL the Mega Pack. It is found here...

                      Do you have the Mega Pack too? That contains textures used by the mod.

                      EDIT:
                      cass_staticmesh.usx
                      cassTextures2.utx

                      Both came native WITH UT2004. If you are missing those then you have a bad install of UT2004 and need to reinstall it.

                      EDITx2: Sorry my first note above was somewhat incorrect. You only need the latest patch. Either way the Mega Pack will take care of all patching and give you all the bonus material, too.

                      For DA2 you only need a fresh install of UT2k4 and the latest patch.

                        This is probably one of my favorite(potential wise) mods for UT2004.
                        My only reason for not playing all that often is the overpowered turrets, if 1.1 balances this it should kick ***. Hope it's out soon.

                          Hey thanks for the compliments!

                          Most of the balance issues have been taken care of....if you look above in my post you can see a pic of the EMP grenades that disable turrets for a bit.

                          Also, there will be an attacker/defender ratio in that there will either be a shorter respawn time for attackers or an automatic game balancer that makes sure there are more attackers than defenders (possibly a 60/40 ratio). They may use a combination of both.

                          This means that for every 2 defenders there will be 3 attackers. If there are ten players then 4 defenders and 6 attackers (if 20 then itd be 8 defenders vs 12 attackers and so on).....this makes the turrets seem more reasonable too.
