    Wild Bill

    Howdy y'all

I reckon y'all might might want to take a gander at this here feller.

    (switching back to regular voice)
He'll be the first of many characters to be made based on the 80's GI Joe line. I've had my GI Joe vehicles working for about a year now, but I have't made one character for them until now. I'm still working on the texturing and stuff, and then will come the rigging and exporting, bleh.

Wild Bill has been a staple in the GI Joe toys ever since the 80's, even though GI Joe toys have had some different twists and has been re-imagined a lot since then. This color scheme is based on the original action figure and the corresponding cartoon version, but the style is heavily influenced by the Texas State Troopers (Highway Patrol). I personally think that the toy version out there today looks lame. The only feature I gave him that resembles the newest version is the bald head, but that was more becasue I am too lazy to give him hair right now. I might make a helicopter helmet version, and maybe add a little more detail to his flightsuit.

      I just had a thought...

would it be more fun to make realistic GI Joe characters, or to make the models look like the old action figures, all plastic and screws and stuff?

Maybe I should start a poll on this...

That whole ninja tangent kinda bugs me, and it just kind of gets out of hand. I find the Spirit vs. Stormsahdow sub-story much more interesting. There was a whole sub-plot where they had come to respect each other as warriors. But to be honest I haven't seen any episodes in like 16-18 years.

When I do make a Snake-eyes, I'm totally gonna make him do a break dance as one of his taunt animations.

I say realistic, or rather, like the cartons.

                Side note

Incidently, the GI Joe theme was attempted before as a Battlefield mod. The people that were on the project were ordered to Cease and Decist, basically, by Hasbro. I saw the screenshots of some of their stuff, and it looked very outdated even for then (they were dying off about when UT2004 came out). But they had just about the same train of thought as I have, stick to the '80s versions - when it was more military-fiction and less Ninja/Sci-Fi. I chose to make GI Joe vehicles as a springboard for game modeling techniques, and then just kind of got addicted to it. During that time is when I came to learn about these people and their struggle with hasbro, but that didn't stop me from making seven vehicles.

Now, this is my first attempt at a GI Joe character. Let's hope I don't get shut down by the man.

I have most of the figures but i think it would look ugly with the screws and stuff. I like the wild bill though. Hiss is my favorite cobra vehicle ( on the ground ) I have some fangs but its not the first one i have Fang III's with the C.L.A.W.S. pilots. PLEEZ MAKE NIGHTCREEPER ( from 2003 ) AND THE NEO VIPERS!!!

                  EDIT:
Are you making the Valor Vs. Venom characters?

EDIT: ok i just downloaded the beta from your site and it wont let me play the ons map. When i click it it just makes a funny sound and brings something about links under it. what did i do wrong?

Hey did you try the Vehicles from my site? Oh **** I just remembered I took them down for upgrading. But I'll get them up soon. I have made the HISS, FANG, TrubbleBubble, Stinger, Vamp, Killer WHALE, and Skyhawk. They are currently getting a polygon and texture facelift, but they will need some code tweaking as soon as that is done.

no you have to summon each one individually. The vehicle mod is still in beta, since I am a one-man-show. I had a look at that Viper soldier... he looks like some clown in a white Darth Vader helmet with a Sub-zero ninja mask and Blade sunglasses. Anyway, I'm all aware of yojoe.com. I'm just not interested in the new GI Joe stuff, since I grew up and GI Joe grew lame after 1988.

will the mod include maps? If it does i can help a bit. I love G.I.Joe and can make a good cobra base map.
